can anyone tell me the correct name for the
public house that stood at the side of the old farmhouse on Alfreton Rd?I remember it was run in 1940s by a Dick Painter, it was locally known as the Deep Bank. Thank you

An old Ord Survey map for around 1930 lists
1 Pub on Alfreton Road The NEW INN but it looks close to the present day one.

Further investigation reveals there was
another pub on Alfreton Road against the farm called The Crown

I have lived in Codnor all my life, and I can confirm that the pub known as Deep Benk next to Home Farm was called The Crown. It suffered severe subsidence and was eventually demolished. I do have a photo.

Stuart

Thanks for the update, and welcome to Chatarea.

Any other details about this pub, which I know nothing about at all, would be gratefully received.

Very interested in the fact that you have a photo of the pub - I suspect that the Heanor Local History Society doesn't have a photo of it.

Any chance of a copy for our records and perhaps for the website? (Either by e-mail or post - if the latter, we'll pay for the cost of getting a proper copy done)

Regards

I remember a local football team called 'Codnor Deep Bank'played on the back of Codnor wreck early 70's? Maybe they were associated with this pub.
