| Patrisia Quote | Reply | | Carrington of Smalley posted on: 9/10/2003 6:57:25 PM Hello Robert, Your site details were passed on to me by Neville Carrington. We are both descended from William Carrington and Margaret Wright c. 1746, of Smalley. I am accumulating a very large tree of Carrington descendants and I would like eventually to set up a One Place Study of Smalley....though that is very much in the future. Another cousin, Mary Richardson nee Carrington, lives in Heanor now and is very active in FH research too. I have been in touch with another Bob Mee but he is in Australia, originally from Spondon. |

replied on: 9/11/2003 12:45:09 AM Yes, I too am descended from William Carrington and Margaret Wright! Hopefully your post here may generate a bit of interest - as you can see from the front page, we may not have many members, but we have an awful lot of page visits - someone out there is watching us! The Bob Mee in Australia may be related to me - the Mee's have connections with Spondon, both well in the past and more recently. In fact one of my uncles emigrated to Australia - not sure if he had any children or grandchildren called Robert. Was he descended from the Carringtons too? The link between the Mees (or my set of Mees) and the Carringtons occurred around 1872, when Joseph Mee (my great-grandfather) married Mary Anne Carrington. My interest is more with local history, and more on the opposite side of Heanor, than with local history and Smalley, though both do interest me. In fact it was probably my research into the family tree some 20 years ago, and reading about old Smalley, that first got me on the local history trail. If you have any specifics I may be able to help you with, please e-mail me. If there are any topics about Smalley you would like help on, please post further messages on the discussion forum. |

replied on: 9/12/2003 7:54:15 PM I have recently been contacted by relatives in New Zealand linked to my Bunting research. Samuel Bunting married Mary Carrington on 31st September 1850 at St Peter's Church in Derby. On the marriage entry her father is Robert Carrington. On the 1851 Census the couple were living on Hope Street in Derby and Mary's age was given as 18 years (born ?1833)The couple went to New Zealand around 1852. As yet I haven't followed up the Carrington links but did see references in the notes and pedigrees of Charles Kerry (I have put some info. on the Smalley section with Robert's help!). |

replied on: 1/27/2005 2:01:18 PM I would be interested to see any background/family tree information anyone has on either the Mee or Carrington family as Joseph Mee is my great-great-grandfather. I have traced my family back to Joseph Mee and Mary Anne Carrington via the Day family line, but haven't got the specific date of Joseph/Mary Anne's marriage or any further information prior to this event. My family follows a line from Letitia Mee (born c1875) - daugther of Joseph & Mary Anne - who married Festus Day in c1894. Any information can be sent to me by email address and would be greatly appreciated. |

replied on: 1/27/2005 2:20:12 PM Hello Joseph Mee is my great-grandfather, by way of Letitia's brother John. (I already had Festus on the family tree.) I've got back loads further than that, far too much to try listing on here. The email facility on ChatArea is very tempramental. Please contact me by using the "Contact Us" page on the History Society's main website (www.HeanorHistory.org.uk) - messages sent that way come direct to me. Regards Robert Mee |

replied on: 2/1/2005 7:28:45 PM Hello,- Robert? I think we have communicated before re Smalley and our Turton connection - if not, lets start again. >>Joseph Mee is my great-great-grandfather>> Mary Anne Carrington is my great grand aunt, sister to my g.gr.father William Carrington I have their marriage date and a rather large Carrington tree if you are interested. I have Letitia, sister to John (Jack) who is the originator of Robert, our moderator and his brother Tony, who is one of my regular contacts - this is getting positively incestuous! Do get in touch again! |

replied on: 2/1/2005 8:50:35 PM Hello again Patrisia - between us, we ought to be able to help Robin (Turton). Family history is not my thing, but I did spend a long time on it in the 80's, and still have all my notes. I'd heard you'd been in touch with Tony as well! I don't remember discussing a Turton connection previously, but perhaps I forget (I often do!) Robert |

replied on: 2/1/2005 10:59:29 PM Your last message explains things - I was thinking of Robert Turton, who produced 'Pictures of Smalley'. We are are going to have to ask them to identify themselves differently or my senior brain will get even more addled! It was Robert I was in communication with, there was a Mary Carrington/Oldknow/Turton connection that we discussed. I have replied to Robin, as you say, I'm sure we can fill in lots of gaps. Incidentally, although not related directly to Smalley, I now have confirmation of the ancestry of Mary Anne Carrington nee Tyrrell, born Boddicote c 1816, d Smalley 1889 Looking forward to hearing from all of you and I have just writen to Tony. |

replied on: 2/2/2005 6:39:50 PM I think the Tyrrell's was the branch of the family tree I got back furthest with. I've even visited Bodicote to view the graveyard, etc. (Though that was over 20 years ago.) |

replied on: 2/3/2005 6:46:03 PM Hello Patrisia - I can understand your confusion over the Turton's. I'm Robin Turton, living in Market Harborough, Leicestershire and I've been tracing back my family predominantly on my mothers side (Butler) and my fathers side (Turton). My grandmother on the Butler side was Florrie (nee Day) and my great grandmother was Letitia Day (nee Mee) who married Festus Day c1894. Letitia was one of a number of children of Mary Anne Carrington and Joseph Mee. I have researched only as far back as Mary Anne Carrington/Joseph Mee so anything else would be a bonus. Robert has kindly agreed to send me some research information he has on this subject so if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. I assume the best way of sending information to me is via Robert as he has my email address. Robert - please feel free to pass this onto Patrisia if this will help. |

replied on: 2/9/2005 12:46:22 AM I'm not sure. My link to the Carringtons is much earlier than that, but I know that the Carrington family in Heanor were regarded as cousins of the Mees. I know no link to a typing teacher, though there probably was one. Can you remember anything more about her, or where she taught? Robert |
