replied on: 1/11/2004 11:22:09 PM Henry Bassford was a councillor on the Heanor Urban District Council, and for many years was the council's shop's and market inspector. In the 1920's, he was also the secretary of the local Hosiery Workers' Union. There is a street in Heanor named after him, Bassford Avenue. |

replied on: 1/6/2005 9:48:09 PM Don't know if this is of any interest, but I used to know a Cyril Bassford who live on Broadway, near the Town Ground. I remember him as being something to do with Heanor Urban District Council - perhaps thats where to councillor conection comes in. I have more about this chaps friends etc; but it's too personal to publish here. Ask if you would like to know.. On reflection his name could have been Clarence; I'm getting old!!!! |
