I believe the Church of Jesus Christ and thr Latter Day Saints on Derby Road Eastwood was built between 1967 and 1969. I worked for East Midlands Electricity Board as a Cable Jointer at this time and installed a three- phase service to the premises.

Was the house on Derby Road something to do with Vic Hallem or one of the family? Before iot was demolished, that is.

Hello I have read your posts re churches and chapels and would like to know if Loscoe Baptist was in same place from early 1800's until 1970's. I have a Shaw ancestor born at Loscoe c 1820 and shipping record when he came to Australia says he was Baptist so wondering where I'd find records for baptisms for him and any siblings. I've searched quite a bit online and not found his family yet or any pictures of possible church

Thanks

Here's a new one for the list.

Anyone remember of know anything about the Heanor Spiritualist Church, on Bircumshaw Road? Still there as late as the 1960's.

The astute amongst you will have noticed that I have added a photograph on the main website churches & chapels page, of a place of worship which has never been mentioned here, not even in the full summary.

I refer to the Christadelphian Hall on Derby Road at Heanor.

Does anyone know anything about this?

They are the Marlpool Cemetery Chapels (notice the plural) - one was C.ofE., the other non-conformist. Nothing more than that!

The answer is somewhere on here, but there is also a fair bit on the main website, on the Heritage Centre page, which gives a potted history. Again, the modern photos on there were taken by me - use them if you like.

There are two separate chapels within the same structure.

When it was opened, one half of it was approved by the Bishop, the other by the Government. Somewhere I have the original documents for it being set up.

The CofE chapel is still set up as a chapel, though rarely used. The non-conformist side was used as our Heritage Centre for a number of years, but is now just used for admin and storage.
