replied on: 6/14/2004 11:58:15 PM Hi Liz Welcome to the Forum, and please feel free to contribute on any topic. The "tin tabernacle" at Stoneyford was certainly still there in 1960, but other than that I can't really help much - I'll try to get some further info. Cheers |

replied on: 2/14/2006 5:44:39 PM On the higher part of Stoneyford Green is the site of the old chapel, which was demolished in the late 1930's and replaced by a red corrugated iron building close by, before the chapel came into being the building was used as a carpenter's shop. |

When "The Boat" was sold the next owners were Mabel and Gordon Needham who had a daughter Anne. This would be in the 60's.(Mabel's Table)I helped with quite a few alterations to both the pub and the outbuildings and eventually the Motel addition. When the Langtons moved they had a Bungalow built somewhere near Crowfields (between Aldercar Hall and Stoneyford Lane) the "Tin Tabernacle"(Holy Trinity Church)used to be further on under the railway bridge, a sharp left and it stood on the left hand side next to the railway bank, the road was unadopted so it was more potholes than road, I know because in the early 60's quite a few of our regular Taxi fares came from Crowfields and Stoneyford and I had the pleasure of driving them. I'm fairly sure that Russell got a scholarship for Heanor Grammar round about 1951.His mother was either a teacher or even Headmistress at Aldercar Infants.Colin Yates was a good sportsman and always prominent at school sports days. All I remember about the Longdon's was they had a good name around the cricket community,I seem to remember Stoneyford always had a good cricket team consisting of mainly Longdon's. replied on: 3/8/2006 12:00:50 AM I remember it being called Mabel's Table, and can confirm Stoneyford's cricketing reputation. And there's even a picture of Mrs Langton at Aldercar Infants' in the Langley Mill/Aldercar School Teachers thread. |

Families she remembers are........ Mills, Graney, Longdon, Langton, and Dexter. Yes Russ Langton did attend Heanor Grammar School. |

replied on: 10/23/2006 11:43:55 PM Hello Norm, and welcome to the site. It would be great to hear more about the Stoneyford of your youth - its an area we don't get to hear much about. What was the Boat like then? Presumably much different to now? Anyway, feel free to comment on any and everything. Regards Robert |

replied on: 10/24/2006 7:09:23 AM Sorry Robert, I can't really compare then to now. It was a very nice country pub then. We have been in New Zealand since 1972 so have no idea what it is like now. |
