F4 Hucknall to Nottingham via Watnall, Larkfield Estate, Cinderhill, Basford Broad Marsh F5 Nottingham to Wollaton Vale F6 Heanor to Matlock seasonal Sundays only E1 Nottingham to Strelly Lane (Wollaton) . In addition to the above many works buses operated and all route numbers began with the prefix W. e.g. W23 Heanor to Moorgreen Colliery. There was also the `Paddy` which went out around 04.00 to pick up the crews that were scheduled to take out the first buses. The paddy also picked up some postal workers. If I remember right the first bus to leave the garage in the morning was at 04.45. It ran light to Kimberley and commenced service from Factory lane to Ripley. . Underwood and Ilkeston garage routes available on request. This lot should bring back memories. |

It would be good if we could complete the list by getting those from the other depots, even if it's not directly related to the subject of Langley Mill! |

replied on: 12/12/2002 10:28:27 AM Hi, The B3 and the C5 operated from the Underwood garage and both operated from Alfreton to Nottingham. The C5 went via Jacksdale and the B3 via Selston. They then shared common route from Eastwood to Nottingham. Underwood also operated the B4, South Normanton to Nottingham via Underwood, Moorgreen, Watnall, Cinderhill. http://heanortown.tripod.com (Heanor modern and old) |

I have (belatedly!) visited the sites you mention and checked the map of MGO routes. I cannot find any mention of route B8, which is what the ONU Regent 3 bus picture on my web page is running on (http://www.timebus.co.uk/rlh/onu.htm), however. I will try to post a message to the forum about the ONU buses I am interested in, to see if anyone knows what garage or routes they operated on. Right now I am waiting for a confirmation email to become a member." Presumably the B8 was a not a Langley Mill depot route. It would be good if we could get a list of the Alfreton and Underwood routes too, for completeness, even if they don't directly impact on our area. |

replied on: 2/19/2003 4:28:30 PM The B8 was operated out of the Mansfield depot and operated from Notingham to Mansfield via Hucknall, Blidworth and Rainworth. Never having driven the full route and only having rode a small section of the route (as a passenger) I am afraid I can`t give any more details. |

replied on: 9/4/2003 12:12:45 AM A couple of corrections now that old MGO Bus Timetables have been checked: The B5 route was Ilkeston to New Eastwood, via Awsworth, Hill Top & Eastwood. It was the F7, not the F6, that did the Heanor to Matlock route on summer Sundays. |

replied on: 4/30/2004 10:29:59 PM ive just discovered this and did it bring back memories. but what about the screen displays on the buses - a few spring to mind (from Nottingham) : A4 Ripley - Limited Stop (later Alfreton; B1 Ripley - Bobbersmill, Eastwood, Heanor; B2 Ripley - Ilkeston, Heanor, Codnor (C6 - Ilkeston, Heanor, Waingroves); B3 Alfreton - Eastwood, Brinsley, Selston; B4 South Normanton - Watnall, Selston, Pinxton; B8 Mansfield - Bestwood, Hucknall, Papplewick; C5 Alfreton -Eastwood,Jacksdale, Riddings; D9 Ilkeston - Wollaton, Trowell, Ilkeston (most were short workings screened as Birchwood Road - Wollaton; .... and there the memory runs out! |

replied on: 10/29/2004 3:27:16 AM Re route D9: these went through Wollaton village, rather than Russell Drive, which B2s F9s and C6s used on their way to Ilkeston. Apart from Birchwood Road and Ilkeston, some D9s terminated at The Forge, Trowell, near the railway station. As The Forge was a cul-de-sac, the buses had to reverse in, before returning to Nottingham. |

replied on: 11/23/2004 5:00:37 PM In the mid-50s, it was a pleasure to travel on the old B1 to Nottingham. This being mainly for boosting the profits of the old 'Sisson & Parkers' book and map Etc. shop. From that time onwards, that travelling pleasure dcreased considerably for the public, till in the early 1960s, the journey from Nottingham especially, became highly uncomfortable and dangerous to say the least. The bus was constantly full to over-loading, even the isles too. If you were one of the lucky? ones who managed to grab a seat, you risked losing your sight from the constantly moving umbrella points, handbags, boxes and practically everything else as well, as the people in the packed isle shoved and swayed in response to each road corner and bump in the road as the bus s l o w l y trundled between each 10 yard spaced bus stop. At least, that's what it felt like. If you weren't depressed before you got on the bus, don't worry, you would be, till the uplifting sense of freedom engulved you as the B1 sardine tin trundled/shuddered, creaked/groaned to a gasping stop on Heanor Market. Never again. The above conditions mainly applied to Fridays and Saturdays, but eventually began to spread throughout the week. Azzabuv.
