| RMMee Moderator Quote | Reply | | War Time Houses posted on: 9/7/2004 8:59:47 PM (Posted on behalf of Azzabuv) Information required concerning the name of the short road/lane, leading off Lacy Fields Road, which led to a clutch of several small terraced houses which stood very close to the rear of the colliery. This would be 1940/1. Did the site of the houses also have a specific name? Does anyone remember, or heard of, the names of any of the tenants of the row of houses at that time. All/any information would be welcome due to my keen interest in that specific locale. |

replied on: 9/8/2004 10:46:18 AM Robert, the old houses were demolished in years gone by. Several newer houses now occupy roughly the same area. There was also a large, beautiful water meadow between the original site and the now Julia Avenue. A change for the worse? Azzabuv. |

replied on: 9/26/2004 8:40:53 AM Recall delivering milk on the old co-op milk Horse drawn floats around 1945-48(good training for Ganging at Langley Pit in 1950) I cannot recall a name for the lane but a search in the early Electoral Rolls may help |

replied on: 9/26/2004 11:40:54 AM I was helping on a Heanor milk round in the early 1950s. But, we were 'posh', driving around in our new fangled electic 'lorry'. The milk came from the Langley Mill dairy. The roundsman's first name was Bill. Died around 1960, unfortunately. Joining Coppice Colliery in the mid-50s, yes, Ganging was the name of the game and some of those poor horses deserved a meddle. I'll have a search for the name of the lane as you suggest. Azzabuv. |

I've been here, there and everywhere on the Google round - i can pick everything up but what i require. When i started Coppice Colliery in 1956, my Ganging wage was the princely sum of 16/8 a shift = 82p +. Terrific, eh? Time marches on. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 9/27/2004 7:20:00 PM Try Heanor Library or failing that The Records Office at Matlock. You must have had a good Union man 5 Days got paid for 6 + Saturday and take home pay was less than a fiver.Retired now and still the government want there pound of flesh,roll on the revelution. |
