Buxton Family - Langley
posted on: 9/13/2004 3:44:30 PM

I am currently researching my Buxton family from Langley.

My G/G/Grandfather, Joseph Buxton was a sinker maker and was born in 1820. He married Mary Jane Bridge on the 28th December 1840. They had a number of siblings, one being my G/Grandfather, George Buxton, born 6th June 1864. George married Emma Palmer on the 23rd June 1883. Emma originated from Syston, Leicester.

If anyone has any links or any further information, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Kevin,

I don't appear to have a Dorcas Buxton at the moment on my family tree but I have come across the following on my research on the IGI.

Dorcas W. Buxton married ? Angell.
March quarter, 1915.
Ref. No. Basford 7b 359.

Does this belong to you?

Have also come across a Dorcas Buxton on the 1901 census aged 9 years.

Hope this helps.

Ann Marie.

SARAH and ANNIE BUXTON of Langley.

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me with some "hard to pin down" Buxtons of Langley?

ANNIE BUXTON was born 5 Aug 1878 in Langley & was the daughter of a SARAH BUXTON (Seamstress). Annie married Samuel Pearson on 25 December 1897 at St. John's Church, Heanor. At the time of marriage, they lived at New Road, Marlpool.

However Annie's birth and marriage certificates are blank where the fathers name should appear... thus making the task of finding out more about her difficult.

I can not find a good match for either Annie or Sarah on the 1871, 81, or 91 census records and do not know for sure when Sarah was born or if she ever got married. I am guessing she would have been a young lady when she had Annie(Est DoB 1850-1860).

There is one curious entry in the 1871 census (address reads as just "Langley") for a Sarah BUXTON, aged 17, a VISITOR to the home of WILLIAM and MARY Buxton, both aged 26 with a young son Walter and unnamed daughter. William was an Engine Driver for the Collery. All were listed as from Heanor.

If anyone can shed any light on these two ladies I would be most grateful as it is looking like a dead loss to pursue that line further.

Thank you.

Hi, Samantha.
There's a bit of information below concerning the two names you're searching for. They may help, especially if one or both of them eventually moved away from Heanor?

Ann Sarah Buxton, Bd. 26/03/1872 aged 18, at Dore, Christ Church, Derbys.

Ann Buxton, Bd. 23/06/1893, aged 53, at Heanor, St. Lawrence.

Sarah Buxton, Bd. 25/07/1877, aged 67, at Darley, St.Helen, Derbys.

Sarah Buxton, bd. 27/04/1897, aged 71, at Ironville, Christ Church.

Of course, if you're information above is rock solid, then my information is stretching it a bit, but - 'any port in a storm', as they say. Good Luck.
