Various members of my family kept it in the 1800s. Someone told me it was demolished in 1950s and a friends grandparents were the last people to keep it (she still has tankards bearing the pub name) but noone seems to know exactly where it was sited |

replied on: 9/24/2004 3:28:22 PM The Arab Inn was situated on Breach Rd; Langley. The occupants listed in the 1891 Census, are as follows, but some of it is barely legible, almost like as if it was wrote with a broom-handle dipped in wet soot. Diabolical. Joseph Johnson. (as Peter states above) Head. 36. Publican & Coal miner. Born either in Lincs/Lancs. at Crillou/Cullou? Anne Johnson. Wife. 33. Publican. Born Codnor Park? Derbys. Eileen Anderson. Neice. 15. b. Codnor Park? Derbys. Edward Anderson. Nephew. 16. Codnor Park? Derbys. Azzabuv. |

The Arab Inn, Langley
replied on: 12/6/2004 12:20:21 PM It lay near the bottom of Breach Rd; on the left hand side. It was around 200 feet from the Lacie Fields Rd; road junction. There was an old path, on the opposite side of the road DIRECTLY facing it as it joined Breach Rd; The path appears to now be the road facing the Ex. Arab Inn site. How did the inn get its 'Arab' name? Azzabuv. |

replied on: 1/3/2005 5:54:00 PM Sorry, Iceboy53, but i can't locate a P.O. near the Arab Inn on the old map. Perhaps someone else may have it marked? It doesn't mean to say there wasn't one there though, but the nearest one which is marked, is at the top of Breach Rd; at the road junction with Ilkeston Rd; Azzabuv. |

replied on: 1/3/2005 7:16:11 PM This copy of the 1900 OS map shows exactly where the Arab Inn was, bottom of Breach Road just up from the junction with Laceyfields Road. ![]() I'm sure there was, or maybe still is, a post office at the bottom of Breach Road. |

replied on: 1/4/2005 4:11:28 PM I used to live on Kew Crescent - opposite where the Arab was - between 1947 and 1966. Where the Arab had been there was waste land, and on this was a chip shop in a sort of tin hut if I remember correctly! That would have been in the late forties/ early fifties. The post office was higher up Breach Road, on the corner of Clara Mount Road, where Marlpool Boys School was. In the early fifties, practically no-one had a car, and the queue for the E8/A8 bus which turned in Kew Crescent seemed to stretch forever! |

replied on: 1/17/2005 1:21:58 PM Got the aerial shot of site of Arab-many thanks-visited site at weekend-it is basically just a gap and part of a wall of the old building still stands-wonder who owns it and why nothing has been done with it? It looks like they knocked it down and then lost interest! |
