Before I answer "no," can anyone tell me where their funeral parlour was? I think in later years it as at the junction of Holbrook Street and Howitt Street, but that building had also been a grocery - so where were the Co-op undertakers then? I've created this as a new topic, so that if anyone wants to add anything about other undertakers, please feel free to do so. |

replied on: 9/27/2004 7:56:32 AM The co-op undertakers were based at the Cromford road site same place as the stables. I believe this was also where the Funeral Parlour was until moving to Holbrook Street. If my memory serves me right a Mr Freddy Kirk was involved either as Transport manager or Funeral Director |

replied on: 9/27/2004 12:03:49 PM There's also - Brewins, situated at the junction of Ray St; and Abbott St; The proprietor was Ernest Bruin/Brewin? There was also a small shop just a few doors below Loui's, on the same side of the street. They used to sell Headstones, Urns and scrolls Etc. but whether it was a proper Undertaker's or not, i'm not certain. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 12/8/2004 5:19:24 PM Hi, John Hawley and his son William Hawley were undertakers on Abbott St Heanor, John was born at Belper amd married Lyda Allen 30 Mar 1837 at Heanor, he was my GGGgrandfather, November 24th 1932 Mr William Hawley passes away Heanor has lost one of its oldest and most respected residents by the death of Mr William Hawley, of Abott st, Heanor, who died on the 16th and was interred in Marlpool cemetery on Monday last. Born at Heanor 94 yrs ago, Mr Hawley had spent the whole of his long and useful life in the town, formerly in business with his father Mr John Hawley, deceased had for many years carried on business as a joiner and undertaker, and was honoured as a fine type of Business man. I think Brewin's moved there after them? |
