Fingers crossed.

Just to clarify a couple of points re the Nellie Hardy and Walter Wright Hardy mentioned. Walter Wright Hardy originated from Pinchbeck in Lincolnshire (my Grandfather) and married into the Earnshaw Family. Originally he was a Baker but at some time worked for Hartleys who had a livery stable in Heanor I believe. in the 1920s he went into the haulage business buying a lorry from Edward Lomax. My great grandfather was Keyworth Earnshaw, born 1850s who married Elizabeth Lomax, hence the Lomax connection. My mother Nellie Hardy worked at Boots up to and beyond her marriage in 1941 and then until leaving Heanor at the end of the war.

As far as I am aware there is no other Hardy connection with Heanor although the Beresfords, Whysalls and many others come into the frame. I know Sue Gill is connected and I believe Elaine Bond also.

Just to finish - and to leave a story for another day - is anyone aware of the Heanor connection to one of the Abraham Lincoln Conspiritors?

John

Welcome to the site.

Sue may know about it, but the rest of us are not aware of the Abraham Lincoln connection, so if you'd like to start a new topic, I'm sure we'd love to know (in fact I can't wait to hear the story!)

I take it you've seen the Earnshaw connection on the Heanor Town F.C. page?

John's the one I got the picture of the football team from.

I'll start the Abraham Lincoln topic on the Heanor section.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for the welcome, I had been trying for some time to actually log on the site and am delighted that I've finally managed. Like Sue I have a fair amount of information on the Lincolnshire Hardy connections in Heanor and am quite happy to share what information I have. I have enjoyed the various topics over recent months and I have no doubt I can find some questions for the contributors.

Azzabuv - this is absolutely no use in your quest but I came across it while transcribing Smalley PRs.
It may not be one of yours, you may even already have it, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Smalley marriages
26 Feb 1835
William HARDY, widower, of Heanor; to Susannah BODEN of Smalley, by licence.
Witnesses, Sarah BODEN & Robert BODEN

Hi,

My tree also links with Heanor Hardy's but having looked trough the pages on this posting I don't think they are the same tree.

Here is some information just in case I am wrong.

Jonathan Wakefield Hardy and family from Sutton-in Ashfield lived on Watkinson Street. His son went to visit an aunt in Manchester and met and married his cousins (my grandfather's) sister Mildred Lewis. They came to live in Loscoe and were followed by several others from the Lewis family including my Grandfather 'George Francis Musson and his wife Elizabeth and another sister Ellen Lewis who became district midwife.

Jonathan Wakefield Hardy worked at Ormonde Colliery and was also apparently an apothecary. His son Jonathan sadly died but not before he became the father of twins Charlotte and John.

My Grandad was Codnor postman for many years and was also an active socialist. He was a member of Heanor Labour party/club. He too originated from Sutton in Ashfield.
His father in Law was William Lewis; an estate gardener originally from Shropshire.
he and his wife Charlotte also followed to live in Loscoe and during the war he was asked to become gardener for Mr Mitton who was the then MD of Butterly company and lived at Ormonde Fields House.

I'm pretty sure I have gone right off the point. Sorry

Did I mention that........Well you know how absorbing this family history stuff can be!

Jacquie.

Hi all Just found this link from Rootschat when I was searching for anyone with connections to my Hardy ancestors from Derbyshire. My lot came from the Kegworth/Shardlow area & were John & Sarah A Hardy with daughters Ellen b1864 & Harriett (my Gt Grandmother) b1868. Ellen married a George Morris, very inconsiderately I thought as this gives me Morrises & Jones on both sides, & went on to have six children. Harriett married into the Jones family on North Wales & also had six children, oddly enough each daughter had a child at about the same time! Must have taken some keeping up with for John & Sarah. My other reason for posting to the site is that I have a Marriage Certificate for a John Hardy & Sarah Richardson in April 1860 that I bought in error & wondered if it would be of any use to anyone else with hardy connections? If you think these are your relatives please contact me & I'll give you more info. Regards Mo
