queens head is now shut down and opened up as a indian take away and retuarant.but it still looks like a public house,so whether it is just a tempory thing i don't know.the capel/church on ilkeston rd next to the cemetery is now closed and awaiting building work for flats.

This is all very sudden - it's the catholic church next the cemetery, isn't it. Where have they moved to?

And how long has the Queens Head been shut? I drive past it a couple of times a week (including yesterday morning!) and I've not noticed a thing.

the queens head has been shut for about a year now Robert, don't know what the circumstances was to make it close.i think the catholic gathering went to the one on hands rd.the old peoples home is closed now also, which is next door to it.the little wooden shack that used to be an hairdressers next to the public toilets sold for about £8000 i'm told.oh and the public toilets are boarded up also at marlpool.bit like a ghost town getting.

The Queens Head hasn't changed exterior wise, but it has been an Indian Restaurant for quite a few months-supposedly quite good too.
The chip shop on Roper Ave was known as Scotch Corner for at least 15 years -it was run by a Scotsman-and eventually a sign was put up officially calling it Scotch Corner-a really good chippy, but it only opened a few nights a week.It closed a while ago-pizzas and chinese food seem to be more "British" now than the good old chippy.

I don't know, Ice. As soon as us ex-pats vacate the area, you let it go to pot. Start a petition in the name of real chips being for sale once again.

marlpool used to be an thriving village with shops and good transport links, but it seems the more houses that are built the more shops, pubs and churches close.we a good hairdressers, veg shop,(co-op)off licence, chip shop etc here in marlpool, and now we down to two shops, and no buses to nottingham and no buses after 8pm.

I honestly didn't know that buses from Heanor don't run through Marlpool to Nottingham anymore. Pathetic.

It sounds like a case of all change at Ilson?
