I am interested in the history of Allendale House. I was born and brought up on Allendale Road and my parents still live there.

It was presumably built at the same time as the school as headmasters residence. I know that the land on the opposite side of the road was once gardens of said house until they were sold off to developers (1920's i think).

The front of the building actually faces Cottage Garden Lane where there must have been an entrance at one time, the view from Allendale Road is actually the back of the building.

Robert, Thankyou for the 1900 map of The fishponds recently included on the main website page. It was of great interest and shows that this house was built before the school, so it was not built as headmasters residence as I had thought, and it clearly shows a long curved driveway from Loscoe Road.

When was William/Mary Howwitt School built, I'm sure I,ve heard of a former Headteacher living at Allendale House.
