Langley Mill/Aldercar School Teachers

A lot of people remember their school teachers as if they were talking about yesterday. Me, I can hardly remember any of them by name!

This topic is to try to bring together a list of names for the various schools in Langley Mill and Aldercar, plus any specific reminiscences.

If you add any threads, please include the school you are talking about, and an approximate year.

To remind you, there were quite a few schools over the years.

Infants:
Elnor Street (till 1970?)
Aldercar (Cromford Road) (until ????)
Sedgwick Street (from 1970?)
Aldercar (Daltons Close) (from ????)

Junior/Junior-Secondary
Boys School, Station Rd, (till ????)
Girls School, Sedgwick Street (till ????)
Junior School, Sedgwick Street (till 1970?)
Junior School, Bailey Brook Drive (>1970?)

Secondary School
Aldercar (from ????)

To start the ball rolling with Sedgwick Street Juniors, approx 1966 - 1970:

The Headmaster was Robert Hampson.
The teacher I remember most was Mrs Battersbea, mainly because of her purple hair!

Aldercar Secondary School, 1970 - 1972.

The Head was Mr Cliffe.
I remember the English teacher, Mr Grout, who had written a book on English grammar, which was used by the school as a text book.
My French teacher was Miss Fletcher, who all the boys drooled over!!!!
The name Mr Flynn rings a bell - PE?

I told you my memory for such things was poor - I was only there for two years, but at the moment that's the best I can do.

Aldercar Infants school 1950's
MISS GREENFIELD-she emigrated to New Zealand

Langley Mill Girls School-1940-50's
MISS BARFOOT-headmistress-whenever she walked into the classroom we all had to stand and wish her good morning/afternoon.Dreaded sitting at her table for school dinners-she always polished the cutlery with her handkerchief-and the mystery of her office-a little room at the top of a narrow stone staircase.
MISS STOKES-form 1

Suzard, When the girl's school became the junior school, the headmaster's office was still in the same place. I remember it well.

Let's not record Sunday School Teachers on this thread, but I agree that it is a good one, if someone would like to start it off.

Couldn't resist putting Roger on!!!!
The last year I was at Langley Mill school-the boys joined us-and we became Junior mixed-I was head girl-but can't remember who was head boy!
I think Miss Barfoot remained headmistress-does anyone know which teachers transferred from Langley Mill Boys to Junior Mixed?I can vaguely remember during my last year there that we had some male teachers, but I was never taught by any of them.

When did Aldercar Secondary open? I don't know if my memory is correct, but I seem to think when I started Langley Mill Girls it went up to senior age and then around 1955 the Seniors left. I remember when I started the Girls school my cousin was in the same school and she was 5 years older than me.
