I know they have had/are about to have a major anniversary, so it must be 1954/1955 that they opened.

I remember Mrs Riley used to play the piano - I was never in her class, but do remember her.

Another to add from the late 60's was Brian Key, who is a 'key' member of our Society.

I was at the Heanor Aldercar Secondary Modern from 61 to 64. The secondary education was reorganised for 64 in that the school no longer sat O and A level examinations. These were all to be taken at Heanor Grammar School. The two top streams from the 4th an 5th years moved to HGS to become classes 4A and 5A. From HASM teachers I recollect Mr Wilmott, tech drawing, Gunga Leake english, Ken Hadjul maths (used to be a major in the Polish Army sometimes used to tell war stories if he was minding a class), Len Huckerby music,
Pete? Flynn PE, G J Farmer-Little Headmaster, Katy Abbott biolgy?. I was in classes 116, 216 and 316.

Aldercar Infants School 1920's -30's
Miss Anthony- she lived on Cromford Rd and on retirement moved onto Argyle st. I used to visit her after her retirement and she used to let me "pump" the organ for her. She was a wonderful lady -and loved children to visit her

Memory jogged again, Tom Millington confirmed as art teacher early 60s. Mr Poole RE teacher same time, Percy Glover science teacher.
Some people hold the view that you never forget anything but have problems in recalling matters.

Not sure about address, used to refer to him as Ernie. The brains just thrown out "Angus" McKenzie modern language teacher ie german. The one with him was to get a detention on Friday. You then got a lift with him to Marlpool and got back home quicker than using school bus. He lived Ilkeston way, possibly Long Eaton side.
Mr Poole was very strong in his teaching of RE with regard to christian beliefs. He may have had church or chapel connections but that only a guess.

Hi everybody just discovered your forum.Aldercar infants 1955-1958? Miss Clarke was headmistress(tall with thinning hair) Mrs Weekley (not sure of spelling), she lived at Shipley. Mrs Stenson from Godkin Drive. Langley Mill Boys school 1958ish there was a Miss Gratton (what a shock she was)Mr Millington who of course was called "Spike" he had a very large slipper.Mr Hollaway, a very nice man.the head was a Mr Gent.
One year there and off to Sedgewick st,Miss Barfoot, I remember having to go up the stairs to her office to get a new notebook,Miss Bradford,Mr Holloway again, he used to lodge at a house just behind Aldercar infants. I wont go on I think thats enough for a first post

Your post has really refreshed my memory-I was having difficulty with memory of Aldercar Infants. Miss Clarke! She was headmistress when I was there, she only used to have half a dozen "chosen" ones in her classroom, which was a small room off the main "top" class room-her grey hair was already thinning when I was there.Mrs Weekley I remember-Mrs Stenson was there after my time, but her daughter was in my class. There was also Miss Hodgkiss and Miss Greenfield/Greensmith? who emigrated to New Zealand. We were very impressed by her going to live there as we had seen newspaper cuttings of New Zealand as we followed the Queen's Commonwealth tour-we knew it was further away than Nottingham!!!I think the teachers had a cushy time as our afternoons seemed to be taken up with listening to the wireless, followed by putting our heads on our desks for the afternoon nap-woe betide if you were caught making any movement!
I remember Miss(Mrs?) Gratton at Langley Mill Girls school before the boys joined us-she was very strict and had a deep voice (maybe she was a smoker??????)
