replied on: 4/28/2005 1:04:00 PM I was at Aldercar 1960-64 and then went with one of the classes to the Grammer School as Phil said above. I went from 416 to 5A. Most of the teachers have been named, but there was also: Mr Maidley - Maths (the girls used to fancy him) Mrs Abbott - Biology(part time policewoman) Mr Kirkham - Woodwork ("measure twice as you can only cut once") There are some good stories about some of the teachers on the freinds reunited website. |

replied on: 7/18/2005 10:49:38 AM I remember them. I'm mentally scarred for life. OK, Aldercar 1974-79 besides the ones mentioned. Ripper (Mr Williams) French Mr Raynes (Spanish) The weakest willed least able to control a class teacher EVER Mr Rolfe (The handicapped guy with the blue flame) Mrs Dean (Science)Fnarr! Mrs Pigeon (maths) Ming The merciless (Mr Helling ) Deputy head Mr Holden- Science (Can you remember HIS nickname? I can....:-)) Mr Kirkland and Archie needham (wood and metalwork) Mr Bainbridge (still there incredibly) Mr Kerrison (english) Miss Bullock later Mrs haynes-Cooking Mr Stevenson (Science) Miss Scott -English She was alright too.... Mr Grime (TD) I hated almost all of them, especially Grime buster but there were some good teachers too. Kerrison was a decent bloke, Mr grout was a nice man and i always liked Mr Wall. |

replied on: 7/18/2005 10:56:10 AM I was at the juniors from 1972-74 and I remember besides hampson the head who was and is a decent man; Mr Hanson-deputy head Mr Hill Mr McGarragh Mrs Riley Mrs Hurst Mr Ashton.(deputy till hanson arrived in 1973) Mr Stockdale I can say with feeling that this was the ONLY decent school i ever went to and just about all the teachers were nice and actually cared about the kids. I went to Devonshire Drive at Eastwood from 1968-72 and it was a hell hole full of retarded violent kids and domineering savage teachers and i was delighted to leave. I once got the cane for walking on the church wall opposite believe it or not. |

replied on: 8/12/2005 10:45:23 PM I am not old enough to know many of the teachers you have mentioned but I do remember a few.. Aldercar - Mr Calladine (was my first form tutor for half a term before he retired, I liked him) Mr Bainbridge - Was recently my exam officer when I went back to school (he couldnt resist a crack at me for being there amongst the kids!) Langley Mill Juniors - Mr Stockdale I vaguely remember as I 'think' his daughter Emma was in the year above me. Mr Hill - Looking really weird now (never forget his long curly locks!) Cannot believe he is still there. Langley Mill Infants Miss Mills - My first ever teacher, loved her to bits, she was also two of my eldest childrens first teacher and sadly retired at the emd of last term. Mrs Riley - became headmistress - known by us as the dragon, nobody wanted to sit at her table. Mrs Rimmington - Became headmistress after Mrs Riley, now retired Mrs Stevenson - Very nice and kind. Funnily enough I even remember the dinnerladies I had here - Mrs Smith - The kindest little lady I have ever met. Mrs Price - Forced me to eat mushy peas because I forgot to get a note from my mum, everybody feared her. |

replied on: 11/27/2005 3:12:45 PM I can remember some that have been forgotten by the other posts - nobody has mentioned Miss Money or Miss Bell. Miss Money was the art teacher at Aldercar Sec - very pretty! Miss Bell gave english and showed us all her knickers for some reason?! Miss Katzenburger was definately a poorer disciplinarian than any other teacher in the world - she was supposed to teach us french. Back in primary school Miss Gratton was head whilst I was there, Mr Gent not being well. I for one detested Mr Wain. The comprehensive system employed was the 'Leicestershire two tier with option' system. |

replied on: 11/27/2005 11:50:39 PM quote: That was well remembered! I'd never heard of the system until recently, but had it fully explained to me by Geoff Stone (head of Heanor Grammar from 1957 till its end) earlier this week. In my day, there were three different coloured letters that you might take home at the end of the 2nd form. One colour meant that you were recommended to move up to the Grammar School (but it was up to your parents either way). One colour meant that you were recommended to stay at Aldercar, but it was up to your parents. The third colour meant that it was up to your parents!! According to Mr Stone, not many parents went against the advice received. |

replied on: 12/22/2005 9:08:04 PM I attended Aldercar Infants (the original one on Cromford Road adjacent to Plumtree Road... now OAP flats) ... if my memory serves me correctly, Mrs Langton was the Head Mistress... she lived half way down Stoneyford Lane (I believe my grandfather built her bungalow!) Does anyone remebember a Mr Keys.... a Religious Studies teacher? Also, no one has mentioned Miss Spencer at Aldercar Secondary... surely a candidate for 'the most beautiful form teacher of 1970's!' |
