replied on: 3/2/2005 6:32:40 PM According to the British Academy Fellows Archive, Professor J. H. W. G. Liebeschuetz (b. 1927) (not W. L. Liebeschuetz) was: "Latin Master, Heanor Grammar School 1958-63; Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer then Reader, University of Leicester 1963-9; Head of Department of Classics and Archaeology, University of Nottingham 1979-92." Obviously, the Grammar School got Wolf to teach German too, since that was his native language, and I'm sure more past pupils will remember him for that than his Latin, which was his undoubted expertise. He has published several books on Classical culture (and is a very nice man too!). It was not till today that I knew that he ever taught at my old school! |

replied on: 3/2/2005 6:34:41 PM Suzard I can't wait to see the list of mistresses too! I notice that there's not much mention of the 70's in the list - is that because it was compiled in the 60's? |

replied on: 3/3/2005 8:56:25 PM Robert, have edited LIEBESCHUETZ-he did take Latin as well-but I had him for German-I have put him as "doctor" because that is what we had to call him at schoOL-maybe he became a professor after Heanor? Didn't we have some interesting teachers?shame we never realised it at the time |

replied on: 3/4/2005 6:29:21 PM The Sweet shop could well be the shop i mean, Kinza. It was a toss-up whether it was a furniture shop or not, but i knew it was always in the background. I must have got it mixed up with the large furniture shop at the bottom of Derby Rd; Well, damn me if that shop's name hasn't just flown out of the window. I'll probably remember it by Mid-night - OR the 7th. bottle. Whichever is the sooner. As if i would? Azzabuv. |
