| RMMee Moderator Quote | Reply | | WWII Evacuees posted on: 3/1/2005 12:41:32 AM During the Second World War, the area saw quite a lot of evacuees coming to relative peace from the large cities being targeted by the Germans. Were you an evacuee who was sent to Heanor, Langley Mill, Smalley or surrounding areas? Perhaps you were brought in as a worker (e.g. at Collaro's). Or did your school get moved to the region (e.g. at Stainsby Hall)? Did your family put an evacuee up? Whatever your story, we'd love to hear it. |

WWII Evacuees
replied on: 3/4/2005 11:41:21 PM There was Dunstead House and Dunstead Lodge. I can't really remember either of them, and, despite having photos of both, get them confused. |

WWII Evacuees
replied on: 3/5/2005 1:08:34 PM Dunsted House belonged to The SMITH family of the Flour Mill in Kelly's 1912.This was the house nearer to the HORSE AND JOCKEY and the home of the Evacuees. Dunstead Lodge was the home of Dr Jack Holmes and was the higher up the hill of the two |
