replied on: 4/6/2005 8:20:34 PM Yes, that's correct. It was stated as a cafe on the overhead name sign. The Rex was the cinema i was trying to remember. The reason i thought it was a shop though, inspite of the name advertisement, is because of all the many times i caught the Heanor bus at the bus stop near to it, i never once heard, saw or smelled anything akin to an ACTIVE cafe. (Kaft - Vot ist das - it sounds Langley Millish again. The shop, with those records in its window, springs immediately to mind........AGAIN? Mein Gott ein Himmel!!!). I also never saw a soul go either in or out of those premises. Did you ever visit it, Peter? Azzabuv. |

I seem to remember that. It always fascinated me - a large blue kettle sitting in an otherwise empty window and never a soul about. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 4/18/2005 6:21:40 PM There was a Blue Kettle Cafe in Ripley,(which eventually changed it's name to the Silver Teapot) which was the same firm-I think the Eastwood branch was mainly a storage place and somewhere to park the vans. Most of the catering was prepared at Ripley. They also hired out crockery and cutlery, which was stored at Eastwood. I believe it was owned at one time by a Mr Hunt from Newthorpe. It possibly closed late 1970's |

replied on: 2/21/2006 4:00:57 AM In the late 40's and 50's it was a reataurant/tea room. My parents used to go there for Ovaltine when they were dating. In the 60's it was more into catering - weddings and dinners,etc. Actually, I worked for them as a waitress for a while. |
