| Roulstone Quote | Reply | | Eyre Family Research posted on: 1/11/2003 1:18:50 PM I am currently researching my mothers side of my family, the Eyre's of Heanor. So far I have the following: I have the birth certificate for John Eyre (my G-Grandfather), which gives the following details: Born 5th February 1865, Father John Eyre (my GG-Grandfather), Miner. Mother Phobe Eyre, formerly Bullock. Place, Heanor. John was married three times, I have the first two marriage certificates, and death certificates for his first two wives. 1st Wife, Date of marriage, 29th April 1883, Sarah Marinah Ludlam, Spinster, age 22, residence Ripley, Father Thomas Ludlam, Engine Driver. John Eyre, Bachelor, Age 20, residence Heanor, Father John Eyre, Miner. Sarah died of Asthma on the 30th April 1893 giving birth after 36 hours of premature labour. The baby also died. John then married his second wife. 2nd Wife, Date of marriage, 9th September 1896, Elizabeth Pollard (my G-Grandmother), nee Morton, Widow, age 34, residence Langley Mill, Father John Morton, Foundry Lime Keeper. John Eyre, age 33, Widow, Coal Miner, residence Langley Mill, Father John Eyre, Coal Miner. Elizabeth died of Renal Schlorosis, uncontrollable vomiting on the 10th December 1905. I am now applying for details of Johns third wife, Ann. All I know is that he had a further daughter called Sabina. So far I have also managed to obtain copies of the 1901, 1891 and 1881 census which backs up my research. It would appear for some reason, that John always put his age down as being born in 1863, however, his birth certificate showing his parents shows him being born in 1865. John's Parents were John (b.1820) and Phoebe Eyre (nee Bullock of Heanor), they had the following children: James born 1842 Mary 1844 Sarah 1846 Richard 1848 George 1850 Samueal 1853 Hanner 1856 Joseph 1859 Elizabeth 1861 John 1865 Feb 5th Pheobe 1867 John Eyre born in 1820 was the son of Samuel (my GGG-Grandad) and Hannah Eyre (nee Fletcher), they had the following children: i. JOHN3 EYRE (my GG-Grandad), b. March 26, 1820, Heanor, Derbyshire, England. Baptism: May 24, 1825, St.Lawrence,Heanor, England ii. ELIZABETH EYRE, b. February 15, 1825, Heanor, Derbyshire, England; m. JAMES SMITH, May 18, 1835. iii. REBECCA EYRE, b. 1826, Heanor, Derbyshire, England. iv. MARY EYRE, b. November 15, 1827, Heanor,Derbyshire, England. v. SAMUEL EYRE, b. November 18, 1830, Mill Hay, Heanor, Derbyshire, England; d. January 29, 1904, Eastwood, Nottingham, England.. vi. HANNAH EYRE, b. October 03, 1833, Mill Hay, Heanor, Derbyshire, England. vii. JAMES EYRE, b. October 01, 1835. viii. JUNE EYRE, b. 1836, Heanor, Derbyshire, England. ix. ANN EYRE, b. 1839, Heanor, Derbyshire, England/Heanor, England. x. MARTHA EYRE, b. 1839, Heanor,Derbyshire, England. ------------------------------------- If any of this looks familiar to anyone, please get in contact with me. I would be interested to hear if anyone has been able to get any further back than this. I am also looking for photographs of Eyre family members which may of been in Heanor Brass Band, or any of the bands in the surrounding area of Heanor. If you have any photographs which are pre 1920's, containing an Eyre in a band, please get in contact. Many thanks Simon Roulstone |

Re: Eyre Family Research
replied on: 1/13/2003 9:40:56 AM Dear Robert, Many thanks for your reply. I was wondering, does the Local History Society hold any photographs of Heanor Town Band? It has been said that my G-grandfathers brother, Samuel Eyre (b.1853) was the conductor of Heanor Brass Band, and my G-grandfather, John Eyre (b.1865) played the cornet. If it was possible to find a photograph of John Eyre, that would be a real breakthrough, as so far we do not have one. Many thanks for any information you may be able to supply. Regards Simon. |

Re: Eyre Family Research
replied on: 1/14/2003 4:46:44 PM Hi Robert, Thats them !!! So far I have only been able to get back to Samuel Eyre, who married Hannah Fletcher in St. Lawrences in Heanor on 15th May 1815. If you have any suggestions on how to find Samuel's father, please let me know as so far baptism records for the local area have not turned anyone up. Will there be any other records which may point to his origin? The 1851 census shows Samuel coming from Pentrich, however, again, so far he cannot be found. Best regards Simon. |

Eyre Family Research
replied on: 10/5/2003 7:32:04 PM I don't know if this is connected or not, as the family is from Codnor, but in view of the strong musical connection..... I have come across a cutting from the Nottingham Guardian, dated 6/1/1925, showing a photo of 3 brothers: Edward Eyre (82 years), Joseph Eyre (85 years) & William Eyre (79 years). Edward was the bandmaster of the Codnor United Prize Band when he was 17, later handing the baton on to Joseph, who held the role for 50 years! Let me know if you are interested in this. |

replied on: 11/21/2004 7:49:36 PM Hello Simon I wonder if your Phoeby (you said "John's Parents were John (b.1820) and Phoebe Eyre (nee Bullock of Heanor") was my great-great-grandfather Richard Bullock's elder sister? She was Pheoby (spelled thus in my family papers) b.8/4/1821 so it seems possible. If so, hello distant cousin! Regards Anthony Bullock |
