On Sunday, all buses for Derby, Alfreton, Denby, and other destinations took to their new stand in Ray Street. Many people , forgetful of the new arrangement, were seen waiting in the usual place; and then, when the penny dropped, there was a dive to Ray Street - only to find there was another half hour to wait. No doubt the long half hour will serve as a reminder when they next visit heanor. |

replied on: 11/21/2007 7:50:10 AM So when did Ray Street stop being a bus stop? I remember buses on Godfrey Street, and they are still on Wilmot Street, but I can't remember them on Ray Street at all. |

replied on: 11/25/2007 4:30:01 PM The Trent bus for Derby, and other destinations, used to use Ray Street 50s and 60s. They used to park opposite the Town Ground. I left the area mid 60s so cannot be more precise on dates. If we went out and about it always a bus trip to Nottingham. regards Phil |

replied on: 11/26/2007 2:01:41 PM Got that one wrong ! The buses used to stop on Broadway not Ray Street. There used to be a Trent bus stop at the side of the marketplace. It was outside a department type store, memory bank is not too sure of name of the store. I am using a street atlas to refresh memory bank but the layout and colour tints used are not too clever for my eyes. Methinks time to visit Specsavers. regards Phil |

replied on: 11/26/2007 5:22:31 PM wasn't that dept store the co-op ??? the derby bus used to go to the town ground where the drivers had a break and then pull up at the store where the police station is now...still no memories of ray street yet phil??. |

The "55"/"55A" used to take a longer route via Horsley/Horsley Woodhouse. - often caught them to go to Derby in the 1950's. If we were in good time we would walk down to the Town Ground to get on, otherwise catch it at the Market Place. |
