Hi Jenny,
Thank you for your kindness in reponse and for giving me Hezekiah's date of death, marriage and 1841 census. That is him in the 1851 census. In my 1st message I gave all the details of him, but that message now appears to have been deleted.

He was a 'collar' maker, ie for horses in that census as he like his forebears and other kin was a master saddler.

Have the Weslyn Methodist MIs been transcribed and am I able to view these please?

Many thanks Peter for your reply.

Hezekiah Clarke was the son of John CLARKE of Spondon who married Mary KIRK of Wilne,16 Feb 1768.

Hezekiah was one of 4 children of that marriage [that we have found so far] and was baptised Spondon 6 Feb 1776. I now know that he married Frances ARGILE 31 Oct 1831, I assume at Heanor and that Hezekiah died 27 September 1854 and is buried at the Weslyan Church, Heanor.

That is great finding these extras. Many thanks to you all

Hi,
I've looked at baptisms 1756-1798 no Baptisms, but if they married in 1831 they would both be 55 years old and I think the W means widow /widower so he may have had children with his first wife? if he was born in 1776 he could have married abt 1796?

Hi Jenny and Peter, I am distressed to find that I have just responded to your messages and I have 'lost' the message!!! Drat! What with that and placing my 1st message in the incorrect topic box!! Grrrhhh!!

Ok, having spoken to HWMBO [dear husband] we realised this morning that this must be a 2nd marriage of Hezekiah's at that age. Then Barry recalled some earlier work we had done, absolutely years ago in fact. We have the MI for Catherine [-----------] 1st wife of Hezekiah who was buried at St Weburgh's Derby. She died 6 Oct 1825 age 52. We have not yet found any chldren of this marriage. Catherine was 'late of Heanor' on her MI. So possibly marriage at Heanor. I haven't found this either, yet though.

We have just returned from a week of research/holiday at Matlock Jenny, and we are now trying to find out more re this Hezekiah whom I found about 15 mins before we left Matlock Library. Isn't it always the way??

We had the MI from Winifred [were you with her Jenny?] at a Derbyshire FHS Open Day at ?? when Winifred was opposite the door of a temporary building - was this in a school perhaps? Maybe at Chesterfield? Anyhow as you can see it was many years ago. I drew a plan of where the grave was at St Werbergs as we knew the church and meant to look at this MI - but it possibly isn't there any longer??

Hello Jenny and Peter,
Many thanks for your help again. Sorry that I have not been able to come onto the Forum until now though. Jenny that information is marvellous, thank you so very much.

Peter that Hezekiah that you found on IGI must be one of the family, will see if Barry has him filed somewhere.

Thanks to you both. Now where is this er Tag Hill? Will look on your map.

Tag Hill was the top part of the hill on Derby Road, where another horse had to be "tagged on" to pull the load up the rest of the hill.

Many thanks for that location of Tag Hill, Chrisbin.

On the 1851 census HO107/2126 fol 86 sch 135 with Hezekiah CLARKE, Saddler [Master] and his wife Francis are two grand-children, surnamed BAILEY. The Grandson, Frederick BAILEY is aged 34 and is a Sadler [sic] Journeyman, so being apprenticed by Hezekiah?, and born Heanor.

I cannot see Frederick BAILEY on the 1861 census, possibly as Frederick can be spelt by enumertors several ways. I would be most interested in knowing whether the History Society knows anything about these BAILEYs - i.e. the marriage of their parents for instance. First [poss.] child born Heanor, may indicate his mother's home parish and is therefore a daughter of Hezekiah.

Many thanks for any help and time.
