They were sent by their mother to Loscoe, and on the return had occasion to cross some fields. Nothing was heard of them at eight o’clock and the parents became anxious as to their safety, search was made on the track without any results until half past twelve (Midnight) when the boys were found by their father and P.c. Hewitt, sleeping in a field close to Loscoe Dam. It appears they wandered about for several hours until quite overcome with cold and fatigue. Jenny |

replied on: 8/15/2006 1:45:57 PM Jenny, Many thanks again for your time. I'm going to the cemetery tomorrow with a friend to try to look for any relevant graves and to take some pictures to share with another researcher of the family in Belgium. Can I ask what your connection is with St James and the area? It seems you have an awful lot of information! Mandy |

replied on: 8/15/2006 3:25:15 PM It's very kind of you to do all this work for everyone else. I'm also local to the area. I did visit the records office at Matlock earlier this year following a different name thread. I find it all fascinating and have done since being a small child. I wish I'd asked more questions then before all the older people started dying. Thanks again |

replied on: 8/17/2006 1:14:10 AM Hi Jenny, I went to Crosshill today with a friend and scoured all the graves. I did come up with one distant-ish relative of my Clarkes, but alas, none of the closest ones were to be seen Ah well, there are so many stones overturned the wrong way and hidden in the undergrowth, they must be hiding there somewhere! Thanks anyway, I think my Genealogy partner in crime is going to buy James Clarke's will, so we will see what that turns up! Apparently, his grave was supposed to have the words "a gentleman" on it! Not bad for a former miner eh? Thanks again Mandy |
