replied on: 6/12/2005 6:38:49 PM Nicky There is a book(let) on the History of Stanley, and I am fairly certain that the Stanley Brick Works are covered in it. (I don't have a copy myself, so can't check.) I am sure that you would be able to find a copy via your local library (especially since Ilkeston Library has a good local history section). |

replied on: 6/13/2005 5:56:31 PM The nearest reference to a brickyard i can find, Robert, are the 'Brickyard Cottages', on Sough Lane. There's quite a few large sand-pits lying around though. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 6/13/2005 9:05:47 PM Being a village I don't know that well (even though I now travel through it most days) I don't know where Sough Lane was. (I do know that that name isn't used anymore though.) |

replied on: 6/13/2005 10:41:51 PM The then Sough Lane was just below Stanley, running West. The cottages were across and a shade below 'Stanley Kilbourne Colliery'. The lane then headed South towards 'Hagg Farms', then turning right, led to the 'Dale Abbey' public house. In other words, it was in the middle of nowhere. Azzabuv. |
