Hi, Veronica. Here's a past DERBY Vernon marriage. It may help you to push your search further back in time?

Vernon. Thomas, m. Mary Blackesly, both of the Parish of St. Werburgh's, Derby, on 24/03/1717 at St. Alkmund's.

Heanor Burials.
Brough. Thomas, aged 69, Bd. 02/05/1878 - Wesleyan Chapel.

Brough. Ruth, aged 77, Bd. 05/05/1888 - Wesleyan Chapel.

For the Smalley search, click on the Smalley thread, then down the page click on the stand alone Smalley Site. It may help you.

I am related to the Brough family and would be interested in hearing from anyone who could help me build the picture further.

George was my Great Great Grandfather. He lived in some row houses at the bottom of Hands Road. They were demolished in the early sixties, if my memory serves. I remeber my mother pointing them out to me. I believe his father was Thomas.

Greatly appreciate any further information.

George was born 1845/6 and married Elizabeth Meakin (CHR: HEANOR 1849)In 1874. I believe his father is Thomas, Born in 1805 and who married a Catherine born in 1803.

The Catherine name seems to run through the family - George had a daughter named Catherine who is my Great grandmother.

Appreciate any help

could this Thomas be part of your family:

Heanor Observer
1st Dec 1921
Death of an Old Heanor Publican
Mr Thomas Brough
We regret to record the death of Mr Thomas Brough who passed away at his residence the “Rose & Crown” Inn Cotmanhay on Tuesday 22nd Nov after a very brief illness. The family is well known and highly respected throughout the Heanor district as prior to going to Ilkeston to the “Queens Head” Inn he was for several years landlord of the “Nags Head” Inn Derby Rd Heanor, and organised a Music Hall there. About a year ago deceased purchased the “Rose & Crown” Inn Cotmanhay and left the “Queens Head” Inn only about a month ago. At that time he was apparently in his usual health, but contracted a cold, which developed into chronic bronchitis and heart trouble. The deceased gentleman was 62 years of age, and leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters to mourn his loss.

You guys are amazing! I am not sure where this Thomas fits in. I am looking for the father of George - born in 1845/6. I had the idea his father was Thomas but the epitaph above couldnt be his as this Thomas must have been born around 1859. Need someone born perhaps 1810 - 1830 range.
