replied on: 7/24/2005 12:28:23 PM Get Some In! UK, ITV (Thames), Sitcom, Colour, 1975 Starring: Tony Selby, David Janson, Gerard Ryder Comedy of the short back 'n' sides variety, with writers Esmonde and Larbey harking back to 1955 and the era of compulsory national service, a situation so richly plundered in The Army Game. The title derived from the jeer that always greeted newcomers into the services, 'Get some in', meaning 'Get some time in' or 'Get some experience under your belt'. The series revolved around four lads from contrasting backgrounds, each of whom had received his call-up papers - Jakey Smith (Robert Lindsay in his first major TV role) who was a reformed teddy boy; Bruce Leckie, a Scot without much brain power; Ken Richardson, a former grammar school pupil; and Matthew Lilley, the son of a vicar and so, in military mindset, appropriately, something of a lily-livered character. Posted to 'C' Flight at RAF Skelton, but swiftly nicknamed the 'erks', the four swiftly come face to face with their permanent adversary, drill instructor Corporal Marsh, a nasty, mean, petty-minded and very vocal piece of work who loathed and despised the 'erks' much in the way that Sergeant Major Bullimore - oddly, his first name was also Percy - had done in The Army Game. Episodes centred around Marsh's ill-treatment of the privates and their attempts at gaining revenge. During its run, Get Some In! featured single guest appearances by Alfred Marks, Roy Kinnear, Paul Eddington and Cheryl Hall (Robert Lindsay's real-life wife); the third series saw the cast move to RAF Midham, and the final one (with Karl Howman replacing Lindsay, who had demobbed to star in Citizen Smith) was set in the hospital at RAF Druidswater. Tony Selby, as Corporal Marsh, had previously appeared in a similar role in an episode of Esmonde and Larbey's The Fenn Street Gang ice |

replied on: 7/24/2005 12:36:39 PM '77 Sunset Strip'. One of the first serious 'Detective' series. The real star of the show though was 'Kookie', the car attendant at Dino's resturant. The original of the later 'Fonzy', of 'Happy Days'. Kookie speech - "Let's exitville" = to leave. "Piling up the Zs" = sleeping. Connie Stevens even had a real hit record - "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb". Stu Bailey - Efrem Zimbalist Jr. Jeff Spencer - Roger Smith. Gerald Lloyd Kookson III (Kookie) - Edd Byrnes. Roscoe (racetrack tout) - Louis Quinne. Suzanne Farbrey (switchboard operator) - Jacqueline Beer. J.R. Hale - Robert Logan. At the time it was an innovative and interesting series, being as it was the fore-runner of the gigantic avalanche of later 'Detective' shows/series to deluge the TV screen. 1958 to 1964. Azzabuv. |
