replied on: 7/26/2005 11:06:32 PM 'RAWHIDE' - "Head 'em up, move 'em out". The great Cattle-Drive Western. For its time, a really great action Western, with the young Clint Eastwood doing his stuff. Unfortunately, Eric Fleming, his side-kick was in reality drowned in the Amazon River and devoured by the needle-teethed pirahna squads. A great and sad loss. Gil Favor (Trailboss) - Eric Fleming. Rowdy Yates (second in command) - Clint Eastwood. Pete Nolan - Sheb Wooley. Wishbone (be-whiskered cook) - Paul Brinegar plus several other well-liked actors. A very interesting series. "Rollin', rollin, rollin". The series ran from 1961 to 1966. Azzabuv |

replied on: 7/26/2005 11:51:22 PM Unfortunately, though, he never got to realize those dreams. Following "The Glass Bottom Boat" his next acting venture unfortunately became his last. On August 17th of 1966 he arrived in Lima, Peru, to begin filming "High Jungle" for MGM. The cast and crew traveled into the jungle northeast of Lima to the Tingo Maria area of Peru, on the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains. There, on September 28th, while filming a scene, he drowned when the canoe he was in capsized in the swift current of the Huallaga River. His Peruvian co-star in the film, Nic Minardos, was also in the canoe but was able to swim to safety. Eric, who was by all accounts an excellent swimmer and scuba diver, drowned in full view of 20 crew and cast members. |

replied on: 7/26/2005 11:59:04 PM The prevailing belief has long been that Eric's body was never recovered, but a brief paragraph in the October 2, 1966 New York Times indicates that was not the case. He was found, several days later, just downriver from the site of the accident.10/6/66 Santa Paula Daily Chronical states that in his will Eric willed his body to the UCLA Medical Center for research. The article goes on to say that "Flemings's family...would decide whether the body would be returned to this country and given to UCLA or left in Peru for the University of Peru." ice |

replied on: 7/31/2005 6:57:59 PM 'Saber of London'. This B/W series quickly turned sour. Mark Saber - Donald Gray, with a fine cast of mediocres. This series typecasted Gray so much, he never worked in TV again, only radio and commercials till his death in 1978. What a sorry way to have to go. Televised from 1959 to 1961. Really! Azzabuv. |

replied on: 8/5/2005 2:23:25 PM Sykes UK, BBC, Sitcom, colour, 1972 Starring: Eric Sykes, Hattie Jacques, Deryck Guyler The setting was still Sebastopol Terrace (albeit now two doors along, at number 28, in an end-of-terrace house)PC Plod'-style policeman whom they nicknamed 'Corky' (played by Deryck Guyler). Interestingly, three of these four principal characters - Eric, Hat and Mr Brown - were unmarried and, albeit deep down, somewhat melancholic. (They were joined by a fourth, next-door neighbour Miss Rumbelow, who came to the series after Mr Brown 'left' - Richard Wattis died on 1 February 1975, aged 62.) Good fun was enjoyed with a temperamental cuckoo in their cuckoo clock, whom Eric and Hattie named Peter and spoke to as if it was a real bird |
