replied on: 8/5/2005 2:56:15 PM 'Z Cars'. This unforgettable series with its flute and drum theme 'Johnney Todd' and Panda Cars dashing hither and thither. In the very first episode,, where PC Steele was shown beating his wife black and blue and PC Lynch sorely worried as he waited for a betting result, they drew the wrath down on the program from the Police Federation. A real first for a Police Investigation series and definitely worth watching. DI Charlie Barlow - Stratford Johns. PC Jock Weir - Joseph Brady. PC/DC Bert Lynch - James Ellis. PC Bob Steele - Jeremy Kemp. PC Sweet - Terence Edmund. PC David Graham - Colin Welland. DS John Watt - Frank Windsor. PC 'Fancy' Smith - Brian Blessed. DI Bamber - Leonard Rossiter. DI Witty - John Woodvine. DI Todd - Joss Ackland. PC Owen Culshaw - David Baker. PC Alec May - Stephen Yardley. DI Brogan - George Sewell. WPC Bayliss - Alison Steadman. Great actors all. Televised from 1962 to 1978. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 8/9/2005 11:20:14 AM 'Undermind'. Ets brainwash ordinary human types (and Pollies) through use of high-pitched radio signals into performing subversive acts against society. Strangely reminiscent of today's actions against society by more and more ---? Oooer! Drew Heriot - Jeremy Wilkin. Anne Heriot - Rosemary Nicols. Prof. Val Randolph - Denis Quilley. ITV 1965. replied on: 8/10/2005 12:56:44 PM No Hiding Place It's probably been mentioned, but just reading an article in last weeks Advertiser-a kimberley man has just had his driving licence renewed at the age of 91. He used to own a black Wolsey, which he purchased from the Metropolitan Police and was driven by Inspector Lockhart in the programe "No Hiding Place" |

replied on: 8/10/2005 5:30:55 PM Launched in 1959, No Hiding Place was one of television's most successful series, and a tremendous amount of hard work and research went into it. No Hiding Place was ITV's best known early police drama series and starred Raymond Francis as Detective Chief Superintendent Tom Lockhart with Det. Sgt. Baxter (Eric Lander), Det. Sgt. Russell (Johnny Briggs), Det. Sgt. Perryman (Michael McStay) and Det. Sgt. Gregg (Sean Caffrey. |

replied on: 8/10/2005 5:32:12 PM Quiz inquisitor Michael Miles put contestants through a series of minor obstacles, including a sixty-second spot where the player had to answer questions without the use of words 'yes' or 'no' ("The Yes/No Interlude") with Alec Dane who would immediately gong out the contestant if they uttered one of the fateful words, and finally three straight questions which led up to the prizes (announced by the voice of Bob Danvers-Walker). |

replied on: 8/10/2005 7:20:32 PM "the fast-talking Miles would enter into some cash bidding for the keys to the box selected by the players; three out of thirteen boxes contained booby prizes. Box 13 contained a mystery prize which was not even known to Miles and then there was the treasure-chest of money and 'tonight's star prize". |

replied on: 8/10/2005 7:25:24 PM 'Holiday Town Parade' - This was a touring variety show that stopped off at the major seaside resorts in the UK, and was hosted by MacDonald Hobley. The opening sequence was unforgettable. Clad in full evening dress, our man wore a full sized marching bass drum on his chest which he proceeded to thump as he pronounced - "Make a date, don't be late, with Holiday Town Parade!". One of the programme's features was a weekly body building slot named the Adonis Competition, in which the chief judge was former Mr. Universe, Arnold Dyson. |

replied on: 8/11/2005 11:39:41 AM "All Our Yesterdays" - i think his name was John Grierson, a Scotsman. At the end of the show, he always used to say - "Goodnight to all North of the Border and all those South of it". It was a very good, factual program concerning issues of the day. It was a very sad occasion when his reporting show ended. This was in the early days of b/w TV. Suzard's Code, Ice, has now apparently been un-coded/de-coded/coded out into oblivion. ANOTHER mysterious, mystifying, mystrionicle mystery to try and comprehend. Life's so tough, at times. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 8/11/2005 11:50:56 AM 'A Show Called Fred'. This fabulous comedy show was derived from the Radio's 'Goon Show'. It was full of surprises for the TV audience, such as a stage curtain would part, to reveal an audience looking at the audience. Who was who? Great fun. The Cast - Peter Sellars, Spike Milligan, Kenneth Connor, Valentine Dyall (radio's 'Man in Black' mysteries), Graham Stark, Patti Lewis, Max Geldray. ITV 1956. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 8/11/2005 12:05:19 PM 'Sherlock Holmes' - THE solver of ALL. The original show was broadcast in 1951, with Alan Wheatley, as Holmes. Then came the MAIN subsequent re-make. Sherlock Holmes - Douglas Wilmer. Dr. Watson - Nigel Stock. Insp. Lestrade - Peter Madden. The most faithful reproduction of Conan Doyle's book, however, came years later - 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes', with Jeremy Brett as the famous Holmes. BBC 1965. Azzabuv. |
