| Jennypeg Researcher | Roman Coins posted on: 7/13/2005 10:37:39 AM Hi, I’ve been reading a book by Arthur Mee THE KING’S ENGLAND, DERBYSHIRE It Calls Heanor :this little hilltop market town and the interesting people are William & Mary Howitt and brother Richard the Tantums, Samuel Watson , John Heiron, General Roper, and Henry Garnett . Also: “ On a window sill of the church is a fragment of stone with an inscription of Roman carving, and we recall that 1700 years ago a Roman buried a vase at Heanor with 800 Roman coins in it. Here they lay forgotten until the railway came.” What happened to the coins? Is there more info about this anywhere? Jenny |
