A Cham Child
replied on: 7/15/2005 1:46:28 PM Hi, Allyhawk. Cham is an extension of the abbreviated Ch, which itself means several descriptions, among them child, children, church, chapter, chestnut, champion, chaplain, chapter, Christ, chronicles (Bible), to name a few of the logical ones. It still doesn't clarify the situation much, but does give a clue to the possible meaning of "Cham child". 'Cham', as a full word, means an old form of the name 'Khan' = Autocrat. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 7/16/2005 6:07:10 PM Thanks for those ideas guys. I personally would go for something along the lines of it meaning a child to do with the church but thats only a sheer guess. It still remains a mystery but at least now I have an idea as to what it could stand for. |

replied on: 7/19/2005 7:31:25 PM I chucked cham into the yahoo search engine. One of the links was to a site dealing with the Roman Catholic faith. Cham has biblical connections (The Book of Genesis)and Cham commited a great act of irreverence. It could be a polite way of indicating that the child may have been born out of wedlock. Possibly being raised by his/her grandparents as their own child. It's an avenue worth exploring especially if the family at the time were of the Roman Catholic faith. regards Phil |

replied on: 8/2/2005 2:30:13 PM But, as Protestanism ruled the Country to a great extent at that period of time, would a R.C. word description have been applied in this case? But whatever the case, 'Cham' does seem to have churchified leanings? Azzabuv. |
