replied on: 7/29/2005 2:10:36 PM Thank you Jenny. There is a possibility that this could be William's father, mother and older sister. Tag Hill is the address given by my other Great Grandfather Joseph Gillott in the 1881 census. Any chance of a look-up for William in the 1851 Census? Phil |

replied on: 7/30/2005 5:25:53 PM Hi Jenny, Forgive my ignorance but what are the numbers following each name in the index? Presumably the first number is age, followed by 2 commas, but do the others signify the area/address etc., of the family? How do they help to get from the index to actual entries? Thanks again Phil |

replied on: 8/20/2005 1:47:26 PM I have found the marriage of William Booth to Harriet Allen Dec.Qtr.1863 and have ordered the certificate. Earlier in the thread I said I couldn't find William in the 1901 Census, however I did find Harriet living with 6 others at 32 Park Street Heanor. Unfortunately I clicked in the wrong place and got only Harriet's details and lost 50p of the 75p remaining on my voucher. There is no provision of a BACK or UNDO button. The helpdesk was no help. Apparently they only give help before you make the mistake I shall be most grateful if someone with access to the microfiche in Heanor, will do a look-up for the rest of the family. Many thanks P |

replied on: 9/1/2005 4:15:07 PM I have now received the marriage certificate of William Booth and Harriet Allen, which took place in the Independent Chapel in Ilkeston in December 1863. They were both resident in Heanor at the time so I can't think why they went to Ilkeston. He gives his age as 18 and she is 17. There is no mention of his father, but hers was Peter Allen. The witnesses were Samuel Peck and June Newton. If this opens any doors to the Allen family I would be grateful. Thanks again P |

replied on: 9/1/2005 7:52:08 PM Hi Jennypeg, The first family you quote would make Peter about the same age as Selina (see above). At that time Harriet would not yet have been born. 1851 or 1861 anyone please? Thanks P |

replied on: 9/19/2005 6:02:04 PM Refering back to the previous mention of the marriage of Sarah Ann Booth to George Thornhill, witnessed by William and Harriet, her father's name is given as Henry John Hancock Brown. Any ideas as to why this should be so? Seems strange to me Thanks |
