Thats right Heather James, she lived next door to my grandmother in Gladstone St, Thats my fishing net she's holding, the photographer thought it made a better composition,I was a bit annoyed I think we went home with a jam jar full of tadpoles. The Coop sent my parents a 8x10 copy of the photo.

I remember Heather being quite excited at the prospect of featuring in the Co op calender! We kept a copy for many years.
Heather was my bridesmaid-still see her occasionally on trips to Nottingham City Hospital, where she works!
So Lily was your auntie??
Welcome to the site-keep posting-you must have memories of Langley Mill which we need a nudge to remember!

It's a very nice, nostalgic photograph, Brian.

Was this the same laundry which could be seen directly across from the Vic Hallam's wood-yard, approximately a third of a mile away in the direction of Eastwood? Say about a third of the way up the hill, on the right.

I don't know if its been mentioned before, but the coop also had an optician, I think it was just Wednesdays, and was in a small storeroom in the drapery department.

The milk was collected from the dairy originally by the horse and carts stabled on Cromford Road And then by the electric milk floats garaged at Cromford Road.Freddie Kirk was the Transport Manager charged with looking after all the Vehicles after the war,his nephew and i used to go to the yard to get our footballs blown up prior to relacing them.

'Kirk'. I've heard that name somewhere else before. It seems to ring a bell.

I know Dolly Kirk worked at the Aldercar store or "top shop" as we knew it, maybe some relation. Incidently the Sir Charles Napier pub was also known as "Top House" was that just my family or were those terms used by others too?
