| pacaine Quote | Reply | | Gillott posted on: 8/14/2005 8:05:04 PM My Gt.Grandfather was Joseph Gillott, born in Heanor about 1845. In the 1881 census his wife is listed as Mary A. Gillott. I have found a Gillott marriage on the GRO index 7b 167 Sept Qtr. 1865. There are so many Gillotts in Heanor that I want to know if I have the right one before ordering the marriage certificate. Can anyone please supply Mary A's maiden name? Many Thanks P |

replied on: 8/14/2005 10:26:18 PM Cant find a Joseph Gillott marriage at that time on Freebmd-but there is a birth of George A. Gillott Jun qtr 1866 Basford reg dist-Joseph and Mary A's eldest son (shown on 1881 census )is George -so your date for a marriage of Sept 1865 would fit in -I can get a look up in Heanor church records at Matlock in a couple of weeks time ifyou can wait that long? |

replied on: 10/11/2005 1:39:39 PM I have found no sign of Mary A Colishaw or Mary A Fowler in the Sept 1865 marriages index, so my GGrandfather married neither of these. I also checked through from A to BAR. alphabetically, but nothing so far. Phil |

replied on: 10/15/2005 12:47:19 PM I now have the marriage certificate. Like my other GGrandparents the Booths, they married in the Independent Chapel in Ilkeston, although both resided in Heanor. Joseph gives his age as 19 and Mary Ann as 18 years. Both fathers are deceased. My next request is for, information about an Abraham Gillott and a John Hardy if you please. Phil |

replied on: 10/15/2005 1:34:06 PM Glad you found where the marriage was-on Church/Chapel topic and on main site their is some info about the Independant in Heanor-some of my ancestors from the Heanor Area were baptised/buried there-some married at the Independant in Ilkeston-and they were from the Heanor area-so it wasn't uncommon for them to do this. |

replied on: 10/15/2005 1:40:25 PM Certainly there is documented evidence that people regularly walked from the Heanor area to Ilkeston for their Sunday devotions. If there wasn't the right branch of methodism in the area where you lived, you walked to the nearest! |

replied on: 10/15/2005 3:27:36 PM Joseph and Mary Ann Gillott are buried in Heanor Cemetery, both in Grave 5862. There is nothing for them on the Memorial Inscriptions Microfiche. Joseph Gillott of Derby Rd buried 01/04/08 age 63 Mary Ann Gillott 12/6/1911 of Smeaton Street buried 12/6/1911 also age 63. There are loads of Gillotts listed in Roger Hellings burial transciption (he's got to 1910). If you want to send me your e-mail I can send them and the Hardys to you. Sue |
