Not same area, but still shops in Heanor
Ripley and Heanor news Mar 11th 1940
"Sewing machine Repair Services, Birks, Red Lion Square Heanor."
There is still a similar type of shop on Red Lion Square today-maybe the same shop as advertised in 1940???

Where Logic is now I remember being Gaunts - they sold stationary and I think they also did printing. Did they also sell artists materials?

Gaunts did sell artists materials.
18 May 1951 Ripley and Heanor
"Lancaster and Thorpe Opticians 35 Market Street heanor Tel Langley Mill 47 Established 1887"
I remember going there for my first "specs"

Ripley and Heanor July 31st 1959
"Sketchley New 4 Day Cleaning Service, 24 Market St Heanor"

Majority of ads in Ripley and Heanor are for shops in Ripley!!!!

looking at an old photo on picture past,i noticed that "boots the chemist" used occupy the shop that used to sell paint and wallpaper on the high street towards morleys.can anyone remember any other shops that were on that side of the road before you reached morleys or even after.

Good pic Iceboy, hopefully it will jog a few memories.
On the Market place (1950/60's was Butts Sweet shop /cigarette shop-I think there is still a cigarette/sweet shop there.
I remember buying Cherry Lips and Midget Gems from there on my way to school-they were small enough to eat in class! They used to have a glass jar on the counter full of extra long cigarettes which you could buy in ones-I can't remember what they were called-never bought one!!! Started smoking with Park Drives-(one cigarette between 3 of us!!!) Butts also sold packs of 5 cigarettes(Park Drive and Woodbines)

also whilst on the subject.logic hasn't always been there has it.so what was there before.

And, another point (veering off towards a totally different topic), where was Logic before it moved here?

The answer, I think, is Codnor Market Place.

You're right, Ice. I'm getting confused with these two similar threads on the go at the same time.

I remember Gaunts - didn't they also used to sell rail tickets?

I wish there was a way - but I'd be tidying up for the next few months!!!! I can move threads from one topic to another, but I cannot move posts from one thread to another.

I remember some of them. Goodchilds shoeshop. A wallpaper & paint shop, can't recall the name. Hollingsworths sweets. Daniels plumbers. Hubbards chipshop. Then a newsagents. Futher down a barbers. Below Morley's was Dunstans decorators. On the opposite side below the Redlion was Burtons groceries.
