I remember it being Cyril Horsley before it closed. Don't know the dates for when he started and finished though.

If you mean on the corner of Abbott St then that would be Albert Richards workshop where he repaired radios, televisions and recharged accumulators etc. His main shop was opposite next to Holmes painters and decorators.

I can't think which waste land you mean. The shop I mentioned is on the corner of Abbott St and Ray St just by the undertakers. Are we in the same spot?

Ah, all is now clear. Due to me not living there now I didn't realize it had gone but that was the spot. There was a house next door, then a sweet shop. Have they gone too?

Thanks for that info. I must have a run over and have a look round. The shop opposite to the Rays Arms on the corner of Mount St used to be a cobblers, then the houses and the sweet shop I mentioned. On the other side of the road was the ENA Packing Company.

Thought this was best place to post this!
R&H 27 April 1913
"10 years ago Mr Thomas Abbott, manager of Heanor Gas Company shop in the Market Place, promised MrFred Lomax, hairdresser of Red Lion Square, when he scored 30 runs with the Heanor Tradesmen, he would give him a silver medal. It was only last week in a match between Heanor Tradesmen and Kimberley at heanor, that Mr Lomax succeeded in acomplishing the task. Accordingley Mr Abbott at Ripley on Wednesday in the match against Rip;ey Tradesmen fulfilled his promise and presented Mr Lomax with a medal. Mr Lomax suitably responded."

Poynters butchers of Market Street are closing their shop on February 24th after trading in the town for around 80 years. This must be the oldest business currently operating in the town centre and will be sadly missed. The word on the street is that Raisins butchers on Loscoe Road are also to close, concentrating solely on their trade catering business. Are we all becoming vegetarians or have we been mugged by Tesco, Sainsbury etc.?

Yes, saw the article in this week's "Trader" - where am I going to get Savoury Ducks from now? It is a loss, but we are all to blame for the change in shopping habits.
