Purdy House Farm, Shipley
posted on: 11/10/2005 10:28:36 PM

I was recently studying a map of the local area when I saw Purdy House Farm. Does anyone know anything about the history of the farm and particularly the Purdy's that it relates to. My surname is the same spelling. My ancestors were in West Hallam,Ilkeston,Stanley Common, Heanor, Langley and Eastwood. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Buzzb. I've located just about every farm in the area, but i cannot locate 'Purdy House Farm'.

Can you say where it is in connection with, say..... the visitor centre at Shipley Hall Park?

Yes..... found it Jenny. Not far below 'Dumbles Cottage'. I didn't check far enough towards the East.

Well, at least we know it's getting on a bit.

If my memory is not playing tricks it must have vanished when the area was outcropped in the mid to late 50s. Long Lane that leads down to the Shipley Boat Inn (MFN), going downhill, had the right hand side dug out by Taylor Woodrow.
