Shipley Pit Accident/Park Street Methodists
posted on: 11/24/2005 5:25:54 PM

My wife's grandfather, Edwin Clark, died after an accident at Shipley Pit on 6 Jan 1921. His wife, Elizabeth lived on at 53 Watkinson St.Heanor until she died in 1937 at age 81. Apparently, she was known locally as 'Lawyer Clark'. I believe that there is a stained glass window in memory of her son Seth Simpson Clark , who died in 1920, in the Park St. Methodist Chapel.
As I live in Canada, it is difficult to confirm these things. I would love to hear from anyone who can comment on any of the above statements.

Mike

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you find some answers - we're a friendly bunch who will assist if we can - the moral, though, is not to give up if you don't get an answer within a few weeks. We have had one case where a post didn't get a significant answer for over two years, but when it came, it was a good one!

I don't know if you realise, but the Park Street Methodist Chapel is no more - it was demolished in, I think, 1980, or thereabouts. That said, the dedication of a new stained-glass window may well have been covered in the local press, as I am sure the mine accident would have been.
