Is that the same as the Mundy Hall, between Sunningdale Avenue and the footpath down onto Ridgeway?

Yes Donarto De Rosa's garage is in what was the Mundy Hall-the land at the side is being built on at the moment.
The Mundy Hall housed wedding receptions too-I remember going to a few there in the sixties.

I know it was "unused" for quite some time, but can't remember when it actually closed. Which Church would it have belonged to -and what were the circumstances which allowed them to sell it?
I think Don De Rosa has converted one part of it into living accomodation-possibly for his family???

I have to say that I didn't think it was a "Church" hall, but rather more of a community hall - it has featured elsewhere in this forum, but I don't think the question of its closure was addressed then - that is certainly not something I can help with.

i think you maybe right about the name though Robert...more of a community hall. i know that local bands practice there..be nice if we could find out the dates it was built though and who ran and looked after it.

There may be a date on the building-I'll have a look on the way to Mapperley? I wonder if Don De Rosa knows any history???

Don't know when Marlpool Church was built, but will try to investigate-have elderly family who may know.
Asked a friend about the Mundy Hall, and she thought it belonged to Marlpool Church-all the church prize givings used to be held in there-and Sunday School parties.

Ripley and Heanor Feb 22nd 1935 gives a report on a dance promoted by the Shipley Tennis Club which was held at the Mundy Memorial Hall Marlpool- and 1st Nov 1935 reports on the annual bazaar on behalf of the St Marys Church Langley supported by Rev F.T.Armstrong of All Saints Church Marlpool being held at the Mundy Memorial Hall Marlpool - so what we need to find out now is who or what the Hall was a memorial to???

tried to look to see if there was anything left on the original building to give to give a clue as to when they we're built..but i cannot see anything at all.if it's mundy hall..surely wouldn't it be dedicated to mundy family..then again that might be to an easy answer.

it very well could be sue, it just seems an older building altogether than the all saints church was and is.it has the same outlining looks as marlpool infants school.

Fresh discoveries....

The Mundy Hall was built around 1925, and was a hall for the village church from the outset. Prior to the hall, there had been a tin building, somewhere between the church and the top of Breach Road, that had been used as a bit of a church hall on occasions.

The church itself was built in 1907, but burnt down in 1949, before being rebuilt in 1951 by Sissons.
