ah yes,a memorial to whom of marlpool. i still think it's has something to do with the mundy family.because that would be the only building standing there till you reach the pits or the mundy family home in those days.

Ripley & Heanor News
MARLPOOL’S NEW HALL
Mundy Memorial
As interesting ceremony took place last Thursday morning on Ilkeston Road, Marlpool, when the Rev. J. F. Gerrard cut the first sod on the site of the proposed Mundy Memorial Hall.
After prayers taken by Mr. J. Rigden Groom, the Rev. J. F. Gerrard said the work they set their hand to that morning would serve three noble purposes. First it would be a memorial to a greatly lamented friend and benefactor of the parish and neighbourhood, the late Mr. A. E. Miller Mundy. It was fitting that the building should be erected on land formerly part of his estate, now bought by them, and within sight of Shipley Hall, which he loved so well. Secondly, the memorial would be Church Sunday School. The religious training of the young was their special care, and they would feel satisfied if, as a result of their labours, they were able to train boys and girls to become good Christians. They hoped, too, that the hall would supply a long-felt need in the district for a building of that kind. They belonged to the National Church, and it was their duty to provide, as far as they could, for the social as well as spiritual needs of the place. They would assist every good cause when the hall was erected.
