replied on: 11/14/2007 10:05:39 PM Suzard - what you say is not entirely correct, as I was in form 3A in 1958. This was the "second division" as I was relegated from the top flight after the second year. Sid Bailey wrote on my report "He finds the work easier in his new form and has done well. I hope he continues his efforts." |

replied on: 11/15/2007 5:56:05 PM Spent all the last week working on the book... The earliest reference to "To Be a Pilgrim" that I can find is in 1941..... Can anyone give a definite earlier use of this hymn at the school? (PS - I won't take answers from anyone under 75 years of age unless its documented!!) |

I think the A/B/C streaming was by academic ability???It was A/B/C in 1959 what was the streaming before then? I seem to recall the schoolmasters/mistresses belonging to certain houses too. |

replied on: 11/19/2007 12:49:28 PM ...also School magazine March 1929 Volume 8 No22 there is a refence to Speech Day Dec 12th 1928 "proceedings closed with the singing of 40 years On" and on the next page there is a topic "Suggested School Song" followed by the words to a little "ditty" Maybe this means they were looking for a school song/hymn???? Years up to mid 1930's yet to be searched |

Languages), then 3A (which was a demotion because I had done badly), then 4H, then 5H. My First Form reports are signed by the redoubtable E Clucas Sykes! |

replied on: 1/14/2008 3:06:18 PM From 1951 to at least 1955, the 4th and 5th Forms had a letter to signify the type of course you were doing: L = Arts and Languages S = Maths and Science G = General Course. Don't know when this ended. PS - I still don't think we have resolved which colour Mundy House was. |

replied on: 1/19/2008 5:17:45 PM Can anyone who was at the school post-1960 tell me what the position was with caps? I have found a reference to caps (and girls' berets) being scrapped in 1957/8, but this seems a bit early to me. |

replied on: 1/19/2008 5:26:09 PM Caps and berets (although a few wore them) were not part of the uniform by Sept 1959. Absolutely certain on that! |

replied on: 1/20/2008 12:55:31 PM Robert, Just spoken to 2 people who left school in July 1859 and one is certain she wore a beret all the way through school, the other is 95% sure. So it seems the last school year they were compulsory was Sept1958/July 1959. Which confirms they were phased out by school year Sept 1959/July 1960. I am 100% certain they were not worn by Sept 1959, but was not too sure about the previous year. |
