Is it likely that children born at Heanor would be baptised at Ripley-Pentrich-Nc?(whatever that is)

Depending on when we are talking about, they were at one time adjacent parishes.

The parish of Heanor used to cover all of Loscoe and Codnor, while the parish of Pentrich covered Ripley up as far as Codnor Gate.

So, while it might be unlikely that someone born at Langley Mill, in the parish of Heanor, would be baptised in Pentrich Parish, for someone at Codnor a trip to Ripley would be easier than a trip to Heanor.

Ripley & Pentrich Non-Conformist Register
Baptisms 1753-1805

Non-conformists do not conform to the Church of England and in the early days met for worship in their homes or wherever opportunity afforded. A preacher would often travel by horseback from one meeting place to another and in time, encouraged the building of a chapel near to where he lived.
Some chapels were built as a central meeting place to serve families of the surrounding villages. Members would often walk ten miles or more to get to the chapel.

If someone has access to Heanor Church records, could I ask the favour of a look up, please.

Elizabeth Woolley b: 31 Dec 1817 Chris: 28 Jan 1818 @ Heanor. Parents supposedly Samuel and Elizabeth Woolley. I have some different info and I need to verify. Any and all notes on the entry would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Hi,
In the book by Fred S. Thorpe "The Heritage of Codnor & Loscoe" there's a a lot of info about the Woolley family and a family tree
with:
Samuel Woolley of Codnor, died 1863, about 77 years, wife's name Elizabeth etc, etc

Samuel married twice the first time to Sophia Moore and the second to Elizabeth Moore - yes, they were sisters. The dates for the Elizabeth I was questioning didnt quite jive with some other info I saw. Wanted to check it out. Do you have the booklet about the Woolleys?

Do you know where this Fred Thorpe fits into the picture? Have wondered if he is linked to the family in some way

I've got my mother copy of the book its not in print now and Mr Thorpe died ( I don't know if he was related) and the book is very hard to come by.
from the book
"research into the Woolley family has been conducted with the assistance of John Woolley of Liphook, Hampshire, Mrs Fletcher of Lodge Farm Shottle, who wrote "The Woolley's of Codnor" in 1979, and Chris and Dorothy Woolley of Home Farm Alfreton Road, Codnor. All these people are descendents of Samuel Woolley who settled in Codnor in the second half of the 1600's"

Jenny - was your mother a Woolley?

Are the people in Codnor still there and are they interested in people contacting them?

My mother was a Woolley and I can get back to the Samuel who came to Denby and before that, the Riber/Matlock group, which then goes back to Moterham, Cheshire.

Alway interested in linking with another branch.

Hi frontcentre,
Sorry we are not related to the Woolley's and I don't know any of the Woolley family (well I don't think so) and there is about twenty pages in the book about the Woolley family, Loscoe's Squire was a Woolley at Egreaves House and in St James Church Codnor there is a stained glass window dedicated to the Woolley family.
