Although this is partly a family history topic, I feel it belongs in the main section, since it touches on things such as shops. It comes from a request via email, which I have edited only slightly:

"I was born in 1935 of Heanor & Langley Mill parents. Was in business in Heanor for some 30 years and also in Rotary.

I am researching Heanor around 1935. Also my family from the late 1800's, in the area of Midland Road and Market Street. I am also compiling a family history and require some background of Heanor at that time.

I initially started in the business of radio & television in Mrs Bambers premises on Derby Road in 1957. I would appreciate any help or background information.

Colin Wood."

Colin adds that, "My parents were Mr Walter Wood, born in 1897, and Mrs Hilda Wood (nee Clay) born in 1900. My Grandparents on the Clay side had a drapers and milliners shop in Market Street, Heanor in 1901, and had moved into the area from Shipley, Yorkshire.

I went to Langley Infants, Langley Mill Boys and then the Heanor Grammar School.

I am hoping to produce a history on...
'A Lifetime in Heanor, Eastwood and Brinsley.
Memoirs of a Derbyshire Boy... Youth...and a Brinsley Family'"

If anyone can help Colin with his research, please post here.

Strange your Clays moved from Shipley Yorkshire to Heanor.
Many of my family married into the Clay family in 1800's-Clays were a large family from Shipley Derbys!!!! Many of them lived in Heanor in 1880-1900's
