we made a fleeting visit to eastwood today to order some furniture.the place we visited was martins.just before you get down to martins, they have a shop at the top which used to be a motor scooter/bike shop of which i cannot remember, and also the vets..now can anyone tell me what that used to be before the vets. there is an hoist of some sort at the front of the building with door still there right at the top.

It was Cliffords motorcycle shop in 1940's -don't know if it ever changed hands -we always refer to it as Cliffords. The vets has been a vetinary practice since at least 1950's. It used to have a stable block adjoining it -will try to find out what it was previously

i bow to your knowledge suzard.thanks for that and hopefully you could come back with some more information..if the vets have been there since the 1950s..maybe it was something else before. some of the building work looks pretty old in parts.

It would have been something before-it is a very old building-still has the original cobblestone courtyard. The building which houses the vetinary practice is a large 3 storey house-which I suppose had its own stables at the back.

The vets was still in the same place (166 Nottingham Road) in 1936- Hector Cockburn was the vet.
164 Nottingham |Road (Clifford Motors moved from the other end of Eastwood to the back of these premises-before acquiring the shop as well) was in 1936 Ronald mervill's-fried fish dealer!
