My interest is a family of framework knitters being Daniel Fletcher and his wife Dorothy Rigley. My family is steeped in the lace and knit wear industry of the East Midlands. The Rigley family seems to have been extensively researched as it appears that after Daniels's and Dorothy's death, Dorothy's sister Catherine (W)Rigley as a widow, emigrated to Utah. Whist researched I would prefer to have some actual facts and evidence of their actual ancestry. What is definite is tha in accordance with the traditions of the LDS my Daniel and Dorothy were christened after their death in 1872 which is very early in the terms of the LDS anybody who had any evidnece of the true ancestry of either the Rigleys or Fletechers any information would be gratefully received. |

replied on: 7/17/2006 11:42:32 PM It seems Dorothy and daniel died young -leaving daughters Lavinia and Elizabeth to be brought up by Grandparents and Aunt and Uncle. In 1841 Daniel and Dorothy and their 2 daughters lived at Heanor Common and Daniel was a frame work knitter-a very common occupation in the area at that time Fletcher is a name long associated with lace making in Heanor -Fletchers lace factory still existed in Heanor until not that many years ago. I have an Eliza Rigley who married into my tree early 1800's. There is information on this site (am trying to find it) about the LDS church -which existed in Eastwood Notts(a couple of miles from Heanor) before the church was in Utah! Dorothy and Daniels baptisms at heanor St Lawrence church are on line -on the Taghill site -the LDS baptism for the dead would be because they were not baptised into the LDS church whilst living. |

replied on: 7/18/2006 8:01:44 AM Many thanks for the information.I haven't has the chance yat to follow up wah happened to Lavinia (Elizabeth is my gg grandmother) or the Fletchers but any information concering either the Fletcher factory or the LDS church would be of assistance.I had wondered if there had been a downturn in the local economy for such a large number of relations from the Rigley side to emigrate but if the LDS had founded their Utah settlements then presumably there was great encouragement for church members to emigrate . |
