replied on: 9/11/2006 7:28:14 AM ![]() A drawing sent in by Tony of the garden railway. Tony has sent me so many photographs of the Langley Mill and Eastwood station, taken after closure, that rather than pasting them onto here I shall shortly be adding a new page to the main site to deal with them. |

replied on: 9/11/2006 7:50:56 AM I've checked the closure dates. As Phil says, the station closed on 7 January 1963, but coal traffic from Moorgreen continued to use the line until May 1966. The station building was still standing in September 1969 (though the tracks were gone by then). I can't find a date for when the buildings were demolished. |

replied on: 9/11/2006 9:53:39 PM I have photographs of a Midland General FLF double decker taken after it had been in collision with the station roof! The vehicle was travelling 'light' from Eastwood back to the garage and after coming around the bend in Derby Road and over the bridge was faced with a road accident. In trying to avoid hitting the cars involved the driver turned towards the kerb, hit it and with the resulting loss of control ended up in the station buildings. As the vehicle in question was new in 1966 and it was not very old when the accident happened it gives some more dates for the pot! |

replied on: 9/12/2006 9:18:33 PM It is not the same picture but it is of the same vehicle. Mine show it once it had been extracted from the station and towed back to the garage. I'll do you a swop on the picture front. |

replied on: 9/15/2006 10:43:29 PM Tony (Ausi)'s pictures form a new photo gallery on the main website this month. Many thanks indeed for the most complete set of photos of a single station that you could ever expect to see. Let me know what you think. And if there are any train buffs out there who feel that I need to add, alter or correct anything on the page, then please let me know. |
