Best bet, is to visit Amber Valley Borough Council head office, if you are in theHeanor area. I have had a look on the web site and the planning department hold historic records from 1949 onwards. They may hold planning applications with the information you are looking for. The office has email addresses so may be able to deal with with your enquiry over the net.

The daddy of all coal mining information is the UK Coal Authority based in Mansfield. The web address is http://www.coal.gov.uk/sevices/miningrecords/index.cfm.

I have had a look at a couple of secondhand map sellers but there is nothing suitable for your purposes available. You could get lucky and find a suitable map from a car boot sale or similar. To show the detail you require the map scale would have to be 2 1/2 inches to the mile or greater. The date of the map, post 1930 pre 1966 to be sure of showing the Mickley Shaft.

My interest in the Shipley Colieries is that my father, Ray Wyles, was employed there as a blacksmith/shaftsman. He would have been one of the last people to ride the shafts.
