There are many helpful people on this site who have records to search through. Where do you get the info? Are the church records of the area available on cd? Where can I get copies? While I grew up in Loscoe ,I dont live In the UK anymore and that makes research for family history so much slower.

Appreciate any info

Thanks

Hi FC

Was there a perticular church that you were looking for the records for?

The majority of St Lawrence's (Heanor) records are not currently online, though this is a project that is currently being worked on.

There is a website that has St Lawrence's baptisms from 1818-1884 transcribed by John Spendlove and John Wright at http://www.taghill.co.uk/ancestral/archives.html

We hope to have as much of her records online and available in book format within the next few years, once we have some of the image files from the local archives office.

Saying that - before I have to spend a forture at the archives office I don't suppose anyone has already got a list of the baptisms, marriages and funerals that they have done but not put online? If they have no objection to us borrowing them for a short time to photocopy we would be more than happy to give them the credit on the church website (coming very soon, we finally have the sitename) for the origonal transcription and if they are handwritten we will be happy to type them up.

On a related note - does anyone out there know anyone who has any copies (or even better volumes!) of the Church magazine?
So far we have access to 1890-1909 and some of the "Open door" newspapers from the 1978 rebuild and we are working on transcribing them. They are a wonderful minefield of information but are going to be complete headaches in the long run... part of the long term - project for our site will be to have a searchable database for the Baptisms marriages and funerals and links to their family members, census records and referances to them in other parts of the archives (magazines, pcc records etc)... as I said, big headache to do but once complete should be a brilliant resource.

Tempus

The Society certainly has some copies of the parish magazine - no volumes I think, and I couldn't, at this stage, put any years to them. Because of the loss of the Heritage Centre, our "filing system" is even more chaotic than it used to be!

Hello,

The site is called Archieve CD Books and is run by Rod Neep. The address is

http://www.rod-neep.co.uk.

All will be revealed when you log on, if you are lucky you wll find exactly what you are looking for. The only problem you will have with the site is that the credit card is likely to get some hammer.

regards Phil

R&H 12th march 1976
Sir- The Parochial Church Council of St Lawrence Church are concerned that the records of baptisms, burials and marriages, which date back to 1559, should be preserved in a safer and drier place than the safe in the Church and that experts should be involved in their maintenance.
They therefore propose to request the county archivist to store them, along with many other church records, in the County Library at matlock. They will be available for inspection at the County Library during normal opening times.
Heanor Local History Society support this proposal, but before we move them we want to know if there is any wide spread feeling on the subject in Heanor.-Yours etc.,

Whatever is the best way to preserve the records.

Are they not in the County archive already?

I saw my G/G Grandmothers marriage record from 1869 when I was there.
