The Tantum family

An enquiry from the USA regarding anything to do with the Tantum family, who were relatively well-off locals 200 plus years ago.

William Howitt's mother was a Tantum, and, the main website has the story of the Tantum ghost.

There was an excellent website devoted to the Tantums, but, unfortunately, due to the death of the webmaster, the site no longer exists. So, any information will be gratefully passed over the Atlantic!

Robert
Tantum is a unusual name and in none of the 1841 to 1901 Census does the population
reach 100 names.
A search of the Ancestry.com transcriptions for England and Wales reveals
1841 (35 TANTUMS)
1851 (40 TANTUMS)
1861 (54 TANTUMS)
1871 (57 TANTUMS)
1881 (34 TANTUMS)
1891 (62 TANTUMS)
1901 (77 TANTUMS)
Can send these lists or any individual records but would be easier to do it to a direct E-MAIL ADDRESS

Robert
Jenny has two postings under "The Crofts Farmhouse" mentioning the Tantums.
Is this the same family ?

Robert,
I have some info. on over 1,000 Tantums starting with John Tantum (1673-1742) from Loscoe England. Don't know much about any of them though. Also, don't know if there were Tantums in Scotland and/or Ireland. Trying to collect as much info. on the family as I can. Any direction you could point me would be appreciated.

I'll have to leave that to the family history experts - we have a few on board, and hopefully they willl give you a helping hand if possible.

A Mr. Rd (Richard?) Tantum rented 3 seats on pew 13, Mr Wm (William?) Francis Tantum seems to have rented all of pew number 7, and Mr F Tantum seems to have owned his own pew at the back of St Lawrence's Heanor.

Not sure of the year for that though, certainly before 1868 at the map is of the pre Victorian building.

Sorry - not sure if that one is helpful or just comes under the heading of annoyingly obscure fact...
