Not sure, Iceboy, but I remember the corona bottles used to have a complicated "cork"-it was on wire -a bit like the Grolsch bottles of today.
I think it was the cork which made it so "special"
I think you may be correct about Carters being Nottingham based-they had pop in glass bottles until mid 1990's and delivered to corner shops, but i think they stopped delivering when they went "plastic" -and then they supplied Cash and carrys

The nickname of the little man who "owned" Elliots was "Santa" -and so Elliots became known as "Santas"
You are so young, Iceboy!!!

When the Corona Man came, both my sisters and I got a bottle each, mine always being Dandylion and Burdock. By the end of the day, my bottle was empty, but my sisters could make theirs last all week. How was that?

Fish and chips in newspaper. They tasted better - maybe the newsprint had something to do with it.

The universe is said to be circular so time can come back on itself, and the past can be the future. It happened to me once.

One thing you don't hear mentioned nowadays is the phrase "bottom drawer", meaning stuff a girl started saving up for her married life. I suppose now that getting married is becoming rarer, the need for the bottom drawer likewise.

Heard on the telly last week that in 1972, over 120,000 women were married under 18 and the figure for last year was about 4000.
