He showed the meeting that it was very desirable to form themselves into a union, Mr. W. Clay moved and Robert Stainsby seconded the following resolution, which was carried unanimously, “That they form themselves into a union, also that they invite other localities to join them in using every endeavour possible to get the Merchandise Marks Amendment Bill, about to be introduced into Parliament passed into law” William Stainsby STAINSBY AVENUE William Stainsby, Councillor on Heanor Urban District Council, was Licensee of the Red Lion. The hayfield on part of this area was farmed by the Stainsby family. Formerly there was a bridle path here called Cemetery Rd, which led to Marlpool Cemetery. William’s sister Mary was married to Benjamin Eley and Edward “Rabbi” Stainsby (newsletter no 292)was William uncle. |

replied on: 3/5/2007 11:08:35 PM John Burgess Stainsby b circa 1851 aged 24 married Ann Clarke b circa 1854 aged 21 of Codnor on 17th May 1895 at St James's of Codnor. Marriage witnessed by Thomas Clarke and Elsie (?) Stainsby. John was the son of John Stainsby born circa 1825. John Stainsby snr was stated as an innkeeper at the time of marriage. Ann was the daughter of James and Amy Clarke of Codnor and Loscoe. I have further info on the Clarkes, but not the Stainsbys |
